(ANGELA breaks apart from RICKIE.)
ANGELA: But, wait, you have to come.
RICKIE: *I* have to come? Why?
ANGELA: 'Cause! Rickie, I like Brian Krakow, okay, a lot, despite what I say about him, okay, if I'm honest, but as a friend, nothing more. Just a *friend*. But, if I call him, he's gonna think it's more.
RICKIE: That's... kinda true, I guess.
ANGELA: And it's just... gonna be so awkward, if it's just us. Whereas if it's you, and me and him, it'll be okay. Please Rickie, I'm begging you!
(ANGELA, laughing a little at herself, fixes a pleading look at RICKIE. He laughs too.)
RICKIE: Why don't you ask Sharon, she knows him much better than I do.
ANGELA: No, she doesn't know about the letter and everything, I don't want her to get involved.
RICKIE: I don't know. What did you have in mind?
ANGELA: Just ice-cream. After school. And then... that's it. Nothing more. Just the ice-cream parlour.
RICKIE: Okay then.
(INT.ICE-CREAM PARLOUR.DAY)
(ANGELA and RICKIE wait at a table.)
RICKIE: He's kinda... late.
ANGELA: (annoyed.) I know. (Beat.) If he didn't wanna come, why didn't he just say "no" when I talked to him? God!
RICKIE: Maybe he's still coming... why didn't he just meet us at school?
ANGELA: (rolls eyes.) I don't know, he said he had to do something, or something. He would meet us here. I told him when and where and everything.
RICKIE: Hmm. (Beat.) D'you wanna order something?
ANGELA: Yeah, I can't wait any longer for him.
(RICKIE and ANGELA flick over the ice-cream list on the table.)
RICKIE: He'll probably turn up soon.
(The door swings open, in walks:
