Frequently Asked Questions

I. About "My So-Called Life"

Question: How many episodes have been filmed?
Answer: Exactly 19. The last episode is called "In Dreams Begin Responsibilities" and the last scene is Brian standing alone with his bike on the street watching Jordan and Angela leave. That's really the end. There's nothing after that scene. The show ends on a cliffhanger.

Q: When did the first episode air?

A: The first episode was shot beginning on March 3rd, 1993, when Claire Danes was just 13 years old. It premiered more than a year later, on August 25, 1994 on ABC.

Q: When was the last episode shot?
A: The wrap party was on December 20, 1994. The last episode aired on January 26, 1995. Reruns started on MTV in March/April 1995.

Q: When was "My So-Called Life" officially cancelled?
A: On May 15, 1995, during the annual upfronts press conference where the networks announce their schedules for the following fall.

Q: Why was "My So-Called Life" cancelled?
A: There are many answers to this question, but in the end it comes down to this: low ratings.

Q: When will there be a reunion show?
A: Probably never. But hey, even Mary Tyler Moore got a reunion show, so maybe wait another 10 or 20 years.

Q: Did Winnie Holzman write more My So-Called Life episodes than the known 19 episodes?
A: No, she didn't. ABC asked her in March 1995 for six more scripts just in case MSCL got picked up, but Winnie Holzman didn't have the time to work on it. And it was pretty clear at this point that ABC wouldn't pick up the show anyway.

Q: Will there ever be new episodes of "My So-Called Life"?
A: No. There won't be any new episodes. Never. That's sad, but the truth. Countless fans tried to collect votes for a reunion movie pretty much since the show went off the air in 1995, but it didn't work out. And more than a decade later, cast and crew have completely moved on in their lives.

Q: Where can I meet other "Life-Heads" (fans of "My So-Called Life")?
A: There are two English mailing lists (Liberty, Dreamworld) and a German mailing-list (Let's Bolt) as well as a French list. Furthermore, there's a MSCL-newsgroup and a Claire Danes newsgroup on Usenet (find at Google Groups). Nearly all of them are inactive now. So take a look at the MSCL.com forum.

Q: Where can I get the original shooting scripts? (not the transcripts)
A: There are some shops on the web and on ebay selling second hand scripts or copies of them.

Q: What's the name of that song in episode so-and-so?
A: See The soundtrack of MSCL.

Q: Where's Tino?
A: You just missed him, he's buying some food for the cat.

Q: Why isn't my question listed here?
A: Because you didn't ask us. e-mail us: contact form!

Q: Is this a commercial website?
A: No, its privately owned and financed. We don't have any ads, we pay for everything ourselves. This is just an unofficial tribute site to one of the greatest TV shows. Think of the ".com" in "MSCL.com" as "community", not "commercial."

III. Buy And Sell

Q: Can I buy "My So-Called Life" on DVD or VHS?
A: Yes and no. VHS tapes are mostly out of stock these days, but check out our "Merchandise" section for details on MSCL DVDs.

Q: Is there a way to get copies of MSCL-episodes from other MSCL-fans? Or is there any other way to get the episodes on tape? I'm willing to pay!
A: Some fans offer to copy their private tapes. But that's in most cases a copyright violation, so we can't offer a tape exchange forum or addresses of other fans. Please don't ask us for copies/episodes/tapes. We get lots of requests each week but we can't fulfill them. Sorry. Consider buying a real set on ebay or retail stores.

Q: Is there a place to buy MSCL-merchandise?
A: Actually, there's almost no merchandise related to MSCL available anymore. Try it from second hand at auction sites like ebay.com. Sometimes you'll find there copies of episode production scripts, t-shirts, posters, soundtracks, hats and even pillows...

Q: I am telling you, we had a time. Didn't we? Didn't we have a time?

A: We did. And we still have.
