Chapter 12: Hold Onto What You Have

(ANGELA, dressed in her nightclothes, wanders downstairs. The house is quiet, and lit up with the lamps around the place. She hears a murmuring sound, and peers around into the LIVING ROOM. She sees:

GRAHAM and DANIELLE. He helps his daughter with her vocabulary homework. ANGELA watches them a beat, before GRAHAM looks up.

GRAHAM: You want something, honey?

ANGELA: (shakes head) No.

GRAHAM: Okay.

GRAHAM smiles at ANGELA, then turns his attention back to DANIELLE. ANGELA pads through the the KITCHEN, where PATTY sits, doing some paperwork. ANGELA goes to the fridge, pours herself a cup of milk.

ANGELA: Mom. Do you want something, to drink or something?

PATTY looks up, surprised.

PATTY: Uh, sure. Actually, I was gonna make, some hot chocolate. Do you want some?

ANGELA: Sure. Thanks.

PATTY smiles, gets up, and starts heating some milk in a saucepan. Beat.

ANGELA: (haltingly) I'm really sorry. For being a pain lately and everything.

PATTY: (beat, smiles) That's okay.

ANGELA: It's just... sometimes you forget. How lucky you are, and everything. So... yeah.

PATTY looks at ANGELA closely.

PATTY: Did something happen?

ANGELA hesitates, then says:
