(ANGELA sighs.)
ANGELA: You know what? Just forget it. I mean, I thought I could talk to you, like, a normal person or something, but obviously not.
(ANGELA turns, and walks away. BRIAN looks like he wants to say something, but doesn't. BRIAN continues down the hall.)
BRIAN (VO): Sometimes, I can't believe this is my life. Not 'cause it's so interesting or something, just 'cause it's so crappy. How come everyone else seems to be, like, almost happy?
(BRIAN passes friends, couples in the HALLWAY. He sighs.)
BRIAN (VO): I just wonder what's gonna happen in the future? Just... there doesn't seem to be much point to anything lately. Only work. If I work hard enough.. I can leave all these people behind.
(BRIAN passes RICKIE. They nod to each other, keep going. We follow RICKIE. He looks glum. He meets RAYANNE, at her locker.)
RICKIE: Hey.
RAYANNE: Hey, I was looking for you.
RICKIE: Oh.
RAYANNE: What's wrong with you? It's bad enough with Angela.
RICKIE: Nothing.
RAYANNE: Don't give me that, I can tell when you're upset.
RICKIE: I'm not upset, okay.
RAYANNE: (disbelieving.) Okay.
RICKIE: Life, in general, as usual, just sucks, okay?
RAYANNE: Tell me something I don't know.
(RAYANNE and RICKIE move off. They pass SHARON and KYLE.)
KYLE: You're breaking up with me?
SHARON: I'm sorry Kyle.
KYLE: But... why?
SHARON: I don't know, I just don't think there's anything between us anymore.
KYLE: What?!
SHARON: I have to go Kyle.
(SHARON rushes off. ANGELA watches from the side.)
ANGELA(VO): Sometimes, it just seems like everyone is unhappy.
