Release Date??????????????????

Post by So-Called Angel » Oct 9th 2002, 8:21 am

Does anyone know when the AU DVD's will be released? I am new to this forum - I joined 2 days ago - and I only discovered this website last week. Unfortunately, a couple of days before that, I sent a money order - for $250 (Australian) off to AU. When I first went to the AU website it said the release date was September, now it says early October - well early October has sort of passed!!!

So anyway, I have been reading the posts on this forum with an absolute sick feeling in my stomach cursing the day I decided to purchase these DVD's. I thought I was going to read lots of posts from people who had received their DVD's saying how great they are - yeah right.

Will we ever get these DVD's or our money back. And, if we do get them, what is the quality going to be like? I have the BMG Special Products DVD that came out in 2000 with the first 3 episodes on it and the quality, to be quite honest - is CRAP! Especially episode 1 "The Pilot" - it has virtually no colour. And some scenes sort of move in frames - it's really weird. We own and rent heaps of DVD's and I've never seen one of this bad quality before. The whole point of DVD is for it be superior to tape. Well I taped MSCL off cable 3 years ago and the quality is heaps better. And by the way, amazon.com state that this particular DVD is region 1, well it must be region 0 because my DVD player is only supposed to play region 4 DVD's - it's not a multi-region DVD player. Maybe that's why it looks like s**t!

Also, on the amazon.com website it mentions bonus material which has something to do with the cast where the AU bonus disk only mentions interviews with the producers.

I have a feeling that the DVD's will be available in November - same as amazon.com. And I have a feeling that they will be the exact same product. So much for "Exclusive to AnotherUniverse". The only thing "Exclusive" to AU is giving people the shits.

And what's with all the double charging? Wasn't there a petition by fans to get all 19 episodes of MSCL onto DVD? Can't we start one to get AU taken off the web???

God, what a joke! Although obviously nobody's laughing. Can you stop a money order? $250 and I don't even get the stinking lunch box, not that I want it mind you, it's probably not worth pissing on, although I hope - for the sake of those of you who pre-ordered and paid their money months ago - that it's pretty f**cking good. :x

That's about it from me,
Good night for me,
Good morning for most of you,
Michelle

Region coding information on Amazon is wrong. This is coded as region zero.

There is no bonus material with the "Amazon version." Another Universe is creating a bonus disc which would be shipped at a later date.

I am pretty sure that the 1st episode still has a bit of a greenish hue, and I think it has more to do with the original film than anything else.

Release Date???????????????????

Hi Jason,

That's what I thought, too, that it might have something to do with the original film but then I watched my tape with the "The Pilot" on it and the quality is so much better. The colour is great. I mean, there is actual colour. Maybe when they put it on T.V they enhanced it somehow?

So, is there a release date?????????? I was thinking of actually ringing them and trying to get some sort of answer.

Thanks,
Michelle

I know nothing about the release date. I will try to call BMG to find out today. Hopefully, AU didn't ask them not take my calls as they told the lunchbox manufacturer.

I don't know if this is part of the "greenish" hue, but somebody who understands DVD a lot more than I do said that digibeta compression can have a negative effect on the color red. I would imagine that maybe the red is clearer on the non-digital version that you have on tape, but at this point I am just pulling this information out of my ass. I don't know the answer.

Release date ???????????

Hi Jason,

That was funny! (the ass bit)

Actually, what you said about the colour red sounds right because the bit where I noticed the lack of colour most was the part where Anglela is running through the carpark at Let's bolt and her doesn't look as red, or should I say, Crimson glow.

Thanks for all your help. I have read many of your previous posts and I think you're doing a great job, and that basically you don't really need this s**t.

Thanks again,
Michelle

To my knowledge, the MSCL DVD (the one that was released a LONG time ago, not the new set) was Region 1 only. That's probably why your DVD player had trouble with it. The DVD did have some problem spots (like a menu not working), but the color on mine was fine and I never had a frame problem.

I know that we have digressed from the original topic and are now actually discussing the old DVD that came out in 2000 with just the first 3 episodes on it, and I apologise, but I thought that I would quickly answer the previous post.

I, too, thought the bad quality might be due to the fact that my player was a region 4 player, and I did mention that in my very first post. But then again, there is no region code on the back of the DVD case which I presume means it's region 0 and not a region 1 at all. Also, my DVD player has never had any problems playing the DVD, it's just that it looks like crap.
