Yep, another double/treble charge thread - my apologies!

Post by Concettina » Sep 16th 2002, 5:22 pm

Sorry to be a pain, I know this has been done to death, but who/what is the best person or place to go to for these frustrating double/treble charges, at the current time? (as it seems to vary). I've e-mailed Ross already with no response (though it's only been one business day, so fair enough) - but should I be trying anything else, AU wise? :?

I've been in touch with the credit card people today to explain the whole situation, and they've noted what's happened on their records, and we've decided to give them 2 weeks to come good with refunding me or giving me some indication that they're about to, otherwise they'll be handling it from then on. No way am I waiting longer than that to get messed around for $140 of unauthorised charges.

I found that I had been double charge on Friday after AU was closed. But I had the credit card company stop the 2nd payment. So today (Monday) I called AU and talked to Wade.

Wade informed me that if I had not called him and mention to him that I stopped the 2nd charge, then my order would have been cancelled. So, I suggust calling AU (I know they close at 4:30 Pacific Time).

I hope this post makes some sense.

Thanks, Wendy. I'm unfortunately in the UK though, and had hoped to avoid having to call. Wouldn't mind so much if it was a guarantee of getting my money back, but it doesn't seem that way from the majority of other posts I've read.

What a mess. Truly how these people can get away with this is what I'm still trying to figure out - never have I come across such incompetence.

I mean mistakes can happen. Recently the Canadian online DVD retailer DVD Soon had some problems with their website over the course of a few weeks, and customers were double and treble charged - but they were refunded immediately when it was found out or the customers notified them!!

I want to emphasize what has already been posted in this thread.

After waiting for more than 1 month since my initial double charge complaint to AU and never receiving my refund, I finally disputed the charge with my credit card company. I supposed that dispute is in the process of being settled right now.

I called Wade just now to confirm that my order was still in good standing. He said yes and that I am scheduled for a refund for the double charge. (Whatever the heck "scheduled for a refund" means. How long does AU actually expect us to wait?!?!?) He then asked, "Have you disputed the double charge with your bank?" And I said yes. (Bank = Credit card company.) He said that he was making a note of that, and if he had not been told that, then my order would have been cancelled because if my credit card company refunds me AND AU refunds me, and I am getting a double refund, then my order would be cancelled.

It all still seems really shady to me, because what if there is a problem with my credit card company? I've never filed a dispute before so for all I know, they might try to screw me, too. Now I'm no longer scheduled for a refund from AU because Wade said my credit card company will take care of it. I'm still confused, and I'm still highly annoyed, and if I don't end up getting my $79.98 back, I don't know what I am going to do. But I am not going to be happy.

So -- please, please, please! If you have filed any sort of dispute with your bank or credit company, if you don't call Wade and tell him, apparently your order will be cancelled. (This is from Wade himself.)

Edited to add: I just talked to a lovely woman at MBNA (my credit card) who assured me that AU will be financially penalized for all of these disputes and that for AU to cancel their scheduled refund simply because they know a dispute is coming ~ AND to cancel an order altogether, probably without notifying the buyer, if a dispute IS filed ~ is (and I quote) "idiotic." I felt so vindicated that my credit card actually assured me that I will get my $ back. It's like a miracle.

Thank you for that VERY interesting (and disturbing) bit of info, Eliza... I understand Wendys post completely now too.

I'll bite my tongue now, and not have the rant I'd like to.

Really happy to read that last bit you added in there too - I just spotted that after posting this message.
