Another way to get your money backAnother way to get your money backIn the event that a merchant refuses to address unauthorized charges, the next step is to take it to your bank.
If you purchased by credit/debit card, you can enter a dispute of your overcharges with your bank. Your bank, hopefully a reliable one, should participate in the "Fair Credit Billing Act." This means that you are protected in the event there is an unauthorized charge to your card. For US Bank customers, like myself, here is the form to fill out: https://www2.usbank.com/cgi_w2/cfm/cust ... ispute.cfm Or if you used a debit/check card, call US Bank directly at 1-800-US-BANKS. According to their website, Wells Fargo will also reimburse unauthorized charges to credit or check cards. Call them at 1-800-869-3557. I don't have time to look up everyone's bank, but I encourage everyone to call the phone numbers listed on the back of their cards or visit your bank's website. Unless you bank with a really skeezy place, these unauthorized charges should be addressed by your bank. These unauthorized charges are a form of Identity Theft - a SERIOUS crime. AU is in for a hefty lawsuit. I agree, take it to your credit card or bank to dispute charges, you will get nowhere with AU. I did everything I was suppose to do to contact AU about the overcharges and after 1 1/2 months of nothing I decided to contact my credit card. Within 2 days the overchared had been credited back to my account from my credit card company as a provisional credit. They are now investing the situation, so all I have to do is sit back and relax! How sweet! At least now I don't have any finance charges building up onto the overcharges. I say forgot about AU, go directly to the people who will help, your credit card or bank!
I called my bank today and notified them about the unauthorized charge. They told me that they're going to reverse the charge and I will see a credit to my account within 5-7 days. They're also going to have someone investigate the charge.
Edited to add: I also asked if I could block the merchant (AU) from billing my card in the future. The rep said no, that I would have to close my current card and get a new one (which I'm going to do because these mysterious overcharges seem to be continuing with various people). The rep also said to notify the bank immediately if another unauthorized charge occurs. Who is onlineUsers browsing this forum: No registered users and 20 guests |
