PHON-A-THON to get BMG to post the Press Release on BMG.com

Post by Jason R » Jul 13th 2002, 1:41 am

OK.

It is getting a little ridiculous. I was interviewed by Bertelsmann's intranet reporter on Thursday, and an article was supposed to be printed about this DVD set on Friday. I have also been promised a press release for at least 4 months. This morning it was put on hold yet again for vague "clearance issues."

I don't think they believe that I am getting nearly as many emails as I am from fans who want some sign of progress from BMG.

I think that loyal fans and customers deserve something official on the BMG site. It would lend a lot of credibility to the press release. It would offer irrefutable evidence that things are moving forward, albeit it in a back-assward, bureaucratic kind of way.

Again, I don't think they they realize the number of people emailing me daily for information about this set.

I believe it is time for me to share. :P

If you are capable of being polite and professional and want to help nudge them along, please email me at jasonr@mscl.com with the word PHONATHON in your email. I will then email everyone who writes to me and arrange for the group to call a number of key individuals at BMG in a very mature manner. We don't want to anger anyone, or be impolite. We simply want answers to our questions.

Remember: they are already doing the set. We just want them to treat it as urgently as we are.

1) We want the press release posted on BMG.com
2) We want an estimated ship date.

A press release posted on MSCL.com just doesn't cut it for someone who has laid out $100 or more for a DVD that is in production. You deserve a sign of progress from BMG.

If you are able to help, please email me at jasonr@mscl.com. Let's get this press release posted on Monday.

Best
Jason

So, I called him :-),
He was really pleasant - I think he was amazed that he was speaking to someone as far away as me (london)...
he said 'so are you calling from England?'.
Me: 'yes, London'.
Him: 'wow, neat. Great accent...'
he confirmed that it is authentic (good to know, but I never really had any doubt), and that he had just come out of a meeting. I did tell him that I was concerned as there had been nothing official to link the project to BMG (only word of mouth) and I have authorised some unrelated company to bill me, and that it was good to hear that the DVD is actually in production. He was fuzzy on the date but I said 'so if everything went smoothly from here on, no problems, then what, can you give me some kind of estimate?',
He said 'late august, if that long.'
I said 'I'm just desperate to get my hands on that set'
he said 'I can confirm that it is legitimate and that it is currently in production'.

YIPPEE!!!
:D
Hopefully lots of people have called - it definitely sounded like I wasn't the first...

I sent two emails to BMG and got confirmations from two people (Larry Karpen, Director of Marketing and Beverly Byrd, Corporate Communications) that the pressrelease and the information in it is authentic.

I was feeling a bit unsure what was going on, so it was nice to learn this to reassure me that everything is in order :)

Need to check up on the money drawn from my bankaccount though, think i've been charged twice.. but gotta doublecheck that.

After that i'm just gonna sit back and wait for my MSCL DVD-set to arrive! :D

If there was a card problem, just bring it to my attention (jasonr@mscl.com) and I will make sure it is fixed pronto. They use batch credit card processing, and I don't know too much about how it works, but I'll say it's kinda sucky, unfortunately.

Yeah, apparently the only thing keeping the release from being posted now is some guy being out sick. He'd better had a doctor's note.

Starbug - I, for one, appreciate your feedback on your telephone call to BMG. Many thanks. :)

Thanks Jason for the quick correction with my doublebilling. :D

I must admit there has been moments where i was thinking all this was some huge rip-off or whatever... but now i feel totally confident that everything is in order. Will be great to get the DVD-set, recording MSCL now when it airs on swedish tv but my VCR is dying and the quality is not so good... so getting it in DVD-quality will be really nice.

Btw, you are doing a great job, keep up the good work!! :D
