Just to throw my two cents in...

I ordered my DVD set on Feb 12th. I was charged the rest on Apr 3. I was double-charged on Jul 23. I only got my double-charge back by disputing with my CC. I cancelled my order with AU and I have yet to be refunded.

Ah, life as an AU customer. 8)

P.S. I always watch the intro to MSCL. It's a great introduction to the show!

thanks for all the input - that's another bit of useful info about being charged the full amount for the set BEFORE the email went out about it. I had no idea they had been doing that, and I think it's got to go in the letter.

If this plot gets any thicker it's going to be solid.

Also, sign your own name if you're the one who's meant to be getting the set. I don't think it matters that your mum was the one who used her credit card...

Oh, and Zero, It ain't over til the fat lady sings :P

Just a recommendation,

If you run a site of your own, or a weblog or anything, link to the petition. The more links that go to it, the higher up the petition will go on search engines.

Search engines - *slap head* - I will register it on search engines at some point over the weekend.

Thanks again J.

I'm going to hit the newsgroups over the w/e also - I'll post about it here once done.

Jason,

could you provide any figures re how many people were double charged and are still waiting for a refund? It would be really useful to be able to put this in the letter. Please could you be as accurate as possible? Thank you.

Right, that just took me 20 mins to type. I am drunk. I am going to Paris in a minute. Bye all! :P

I posted the drygrass data yesterday. Not sure which thread it is in. My last survey was last week, and about 12% of double bills (reported to drygrass) were refunded. Under 5% of cancels were refunded.

You cannot get exact figures, but these responses don't say good things about the company.

let me know if you want to mass mail the petition to people waiting for refunds.

Hey there...

Just glancing over the letter, and I found two spelling errors. (It's a curse, I work in Surveillance and am always looking for wrongdoing.)

But, In at least 2 instances instead of "triple charges" it says "treble charges".

Just thought I'd let you know. Other than that, it was beautiful!! I signed right away. Thanks for making it available to everyone.

I noticed that too, but I think they are referencing the adjective form of 'treble' meaning triple.

treble is one of those Queen's English/American English differences.

I think it's more a question of semantics than a spelling error - treble and tripple more or less mean the same thing.

And you are welcome - it was a team effort and eveyone who signs becomes a part of that team. I've worked out since posting it to pt online that you can't alter it once it's up. makes sense because if i cold edit it i could change it to say "we the undersigned love AU and want to have Ross Rs babies" - for good or ill it will have to stay as is.

I'll be sure to include any updates in the mails I send out when advertising it.

Cool I did not know that!

The only thing, is it says triple 2 times, and treble 2 times. You might want to make it symmetrical. Just a suggestion. :D

Never mind... just read you can't edit it.

DOH!!! Sorry bout dat. I'm bleaching my hair right now and the fumes must be gettin at me!

Ive kept copies of my emails - I preordered way back in February:

received initial email about the DVDs from Jason on 9th February 2002

I pre-ordered my set on the same day

received notification of my order on the 16th February

without my knowledge - the remaining amount ($79) was taken from my account on the 16th March - I sent this email to complain and point out that their actions directly contradicted what had been previously stated:

My understanding was that I would be notified of when the DVD would be shipped and I would pay the balance. I quote from your own web-site "you will be informed by e-mail that the set is ready to ship and that we will be charging the card you made the deposit with the balance of the sale".

However, I have received no such notification but on the 16th of March the balance of $79.98 was charged to my Visa card. Please could you clarify the position of the order? I am unhappy that I have been charged with no notification as it is my understanding that it will be several months before the DVD will be ready. Is it your policy to charge so long before the product is ready? If it is then it contradicts what you have stated on your website:

"you will be informed by e-mail that the set is ready to ship and that we will be charging the card you made the deposit with the balance of the sale".

received no reply to this email

mass email on 26th March - mentioned briefly that the full amounts had been charged from some accounts - some lame excuse about not being able to hold the transaction open that long and no apology for taking the money without notofication.

hope this information helps - ive signed the petition already - but I think the above is helpful in outlining such awful business practices

Okay, here's what I find funny... people are adding signatures and saying in their comments they love anotheruniverse.com. It's like they think the petition is the Raging Bull Message forum. That's fine by me... all I care about is that 145 people have signed stating that anotheruniverse.com is a terrible company.
