For those who won't be getting the bonus disk....Well, aren't you the little optimist? ![]() I wouldn't mind living in "fantasy land" from time to time. They say ignorance is bliss. If only there were a button somewhere that I could push. To force me to stop talking.
Sort of off topic, but still is in the genre of this thread:
Cost of Moulin Rouge on DVD: ~$22 (This includes the whole movie, two audio tracks both 127 minutes in length, a complete disk of additional material, plus much more.) So this comes down to at least 300 minutes of entertainment. Cost of Moulin Rouge CD1: $19 (56 minutes of songs) Cost of Moulin Rouge CD2: $19 (42 minutes of songs) This adds up to $38 for 127 minutes of material that you can get on a $22 dvd which comes with almost 3 hours of additional entertainment. That is completely rediculous. And you wonder why so many people steal music nowadays. And if you feel bad about not supporting the artist, then send them $2 per album you download. Thats WAY more than they'd get if you actually bought the album. How can the soundtrack of the movie cost more than the actual movie itself? As far as I am concerned the RIAA is much more the pirate than anyone who downloads music for free. Tom Petty has written a pretty good article about all of this: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsar ... 9&afl=frnd And a few by Janis Ian (these are really good: http://www.janisian.com/article-internet_debacle.html http://www.janisian.com/article-fallout.html Sorry, my rant is over. You can go about your buisness. ![]() "Your imagination, like a child, will explode with unrestrained possibilities for adventure."
Bonus Disk Company?Question: Do the rights to the disk belong to AU or the company doing the footage? If the latter, they could easily sell the disks to the thousands that bought it other places, and get a windfall.
Here is a very interesting speech by Courtney Love that talks about how little musicians are actually paid: http://www.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/06/14/love/ I'd go for the lawyer... that way you'd have automatic protection against signing a bad contract with the music industry... and you'd be able to properly threaten ross to get your dvd's or money back. Having seen the MTV Cribs show, it does seem like life can't be all that bad for musicians. For real! I was watching "MTV Cribs" once with my brother this summer, and they featured a composer (can't remember name) living in LA. He wrote one song for Whitney Houston (or someone like) a number of years ago, and he said he got his house and everything from the royalties for that ONE song! ONE! Man, all I need to do is write one good pop song and I'll have it made, apparently. (I'm majoring in composition, btw.)
erm, isn't a bonus disc, exaxctly that? ie a 'bonus' for ordering the collector's edition? not that i'm happy with AU, nor do i expect to receive it. but why should people who have not paid for the collectors edition with bonus disc, be entitled to it, after paying less for their set? if it should have come free with the standard set, then it would have, and it wouldn't be a collectors edition, would it? help me out with the logic in that!
That was a really interesting article - and a lot more articulate than I thought it would be coming from Ms. L! (then again, look at how much Letter from a Birmingham Jail was cleaned up)
Apparently someone missed the 1990 MTV Generation interview with Linda Ellerbee, a leading Journalist and social commentator, where she refers to the past decade as the "I've got mine Reagan 80s." Let's check our facts, why don't we?
