FADE IN:
EXT. CHASE HOUSE/BACKYARD - NIGHT
The back door opens and little DANIELLE exits, struggling with a large garbage bag.
PATTY (O.S.)
And make sure you put the lids back on
securely so no animals will get into the
garbage and make a mess!
DANIELLE
I know! I know!
SHARON (VO)
Previously on My So-Called Gothic Life...
Danielle walks to the side of the house and opens one of two garbage cans. The garbage bag teeters at the edge of the can, then TUMBLES IN LOUDLY. A TWIG SNAPS near-by. Danielle whirls at the sound.
In the woods, a HUGE SHADOW shifts ever so slightly.
Danielle starts back toward the house. Ten feet away, she makes a break for it -- full-speed, all-out, right into the house. She SLAMS the door behind her.
DANIELLE (O.S.)
Mommy!
PATTY (O.S.)
Danielle! I told you not to slam the door!
Deep in the woods, the huge shadow moves again. The shadow emits a LOW GROWL.
CLOSER ON THE SHADOW
A pair of glowing red eyes stare at the Chase house.
The shadow spins and, in one fluid motion, bounds off into the night.
SHARON (VO)
And now the conclusion to "Danielle's Tale"...
FADE OUT
FADE IN:
EXT. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIELD - NIGHT
A full moon hangs low in the night sky as KYLE, football securely tucked in his side, runs down the length of the field.
SUPER: ONE MONTH LATER
Kyle dodges imaginary blockers -- left, right, left, right -- until he reaches the end of the field. Kyle spikes the football and does a victory dance. Suddenly, there's a loud, savage GROWL from behind, then something huge and canine in appearance SLAMS into Kyle. He is sent flying and lands several feet away, where he skids to a stop on the grass.
KYLE
(groggy)
Sharon...? Let's not do it tonight,
okay, baby...?
Kyle falls unconscious.
Behind him stands the creature. Before we can get a good look at it, it sprints away into the shadows of the night.
EXT. CHASE HOUSE/STREET - NIGHT
CRICKETS CHIRP, hidden somewhere in the quiet suburban block. The full moon rests in the sky.
In the street, BRIAN rides his bicycle around in circles. He does a horrible job of not making it known that his attention is solely on the Chase house.
GRAHAM (VO)
"Element AG", "element AG"...
INT. CHASE HOUSE/DINING ROOM - NIGHT
GRAHAM sits at the dining table doing the crossword puzzle in the newspaper. Danielle sits at the table, eating dinner. Graham's plate hasn't been touched. HALLIE enters from the kitchen with a bottle of white wine. She fills Graham's glass and sits down at the table.
DANIELLE
Can I have some?
Both adults ignore her.
GRAHAM
"Element AG"...
HALLIE
Gold?
GRAHAM
No, that's AU.
DANIELLE
(Italian accent)
'Ey, you! What's'a your problem, ha?
HALLIE
Iron?
GRAHAM
I think that's FE.
DANIELLE
Maybe it's F-U-C...
HALLIE
Dani, finish your dinner.
DANIELLE
Why do I have to? Daddy didn't finish
his. He didn't even take a bite of his.
And don't call me "Dani".
HALLIE
You don't like "Dani"?
DANIELLE
My name is Danielle.
HALLIE
Well, Danielle, finish your dinner.
DANIELLE
You're not my mom. You can't tell me
what to do.
This gets Graham's attention.
GRAHAM
Hey, uh, Danielle, come on, finish your
dinner, okay?
DANIELLE
When's Mommy coming home?
Graham looks to Hallie for help, but she just stares down at her wine glass.
DANIELLE
I mean, how long does a paper
convention last anyway? How long
can people talk about paper?
GRAHAM
Well, um, people can talk about paper
for a very long time, Danielle. Don't you
have any homework to do?
DANIELLE
I thought you wanted me to finish my dinner?
GRAHAM
Naw, go on up and do your homework...
HALLIE
Right after you take out the garbage.
Danielle's eyes go wide with fright.
DANIELLE
Do I have to?
GRAHAM
Are you still afraid to go out there alone?
DANIELLE
But, Daddy, I'm telling you, there was
something out there! Like a bear or a
gorilla or something!
HALLIE
Kids. What an imagination.
Danielle gives Hallie a dirty look.
HALLIE
She probably caught a glimpse of a raccoon
or something.
DANIELLE
I'm, like, in the same room, you know.
GRAHAM
"Element AG", "element AG"...
Danielle watches her father try to solve the crossword.
DANIELLE (VO)
Why do only grown-ups like to do crossword
puzzles? They're, like, so boring and I never
get any of the words.
GRAHAM
"Element AG"...
DANIELLE (VO)
Crossword puzzles are for old people.
HALLIE
Danielle? The garbage?
DANIELLE
Okay, okay! I'm going! Jeez...
Danielle exits to the kitchen.
INT. CHASE HOUSE/KITCHEN - NIGHT
Danielle goes to the back door where a bag of garbage awaits her. She opens the door and stares out into the cold, dark night. The full moon hangs overhead. Danielle swallows hard.
EXT. CHASE HOUSE/BACKYARD - NIGHT
In a little whirlwind, Danielle blasts out the back door and makes a bee-line straight for the garbage cans by the side of the house. She lifts the lid off one of the cans, tries to heft the bag up and into the can, but drops the bag on the ground.
DANIELLE
Come on, come on...
Danielle lifts the bag up. It drops into the can.
BRIAN (O.S.)
Hey.
DANIELLE
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...!
Brian covers his ears. His bike, which he was holding up, CLATTERS to the ground.
DANIELLE
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee...!
BRIAN
Stop!
Hallie appears at the back door and runs to Danielle and Brian.
DANIELLE
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...!
HALLIE
Danielle! What the hell...!?
Hallie clamps her hand over Danielle's mouth.
BRIAN
God! Look, I'm sorry! I didn't mean
to scare her! I was just going to ask
her if she'd seen Angela around! I
didn't mean...!
HALLIE
You live in this neighborhood?
BRIAN
Yeah! Right across the street! Ask
Mr. Chase!
HALLIE
Sure, kid. Just go home, okay?
Hallie enters the house with Danielle, leaving Brian outside, alone.
From the woods, a pair of red eyes watches Brian and emits a low, guttural GROWL.
INT. CHASE HOUSE/LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Danielle sits at the dining table, crying.
DANIELLE
...and then he tried to rape me!
GRAHAM
He what!?
HALLIE
He did not! He just startled her, that's all.
DANIELLE
I want Mommy!
Hallie rolls her eyes and downs what's left of the wine in her glass.
GRAHAM
Come on, honey, let's get you to bed.
Graham leads Danielle toward the stairs.
DANIELLE
But what about my homework?
GRAHAM
I'll write you a note. We'll tell your teacher
you were sick and couldn't do it, okay?
DANIELLE
Okay.
GRAHAM
Say good night to Hallie.
Danielle looks at Hallie.
HALLIE
Good night.
Danielle heads up the stairs without saying a word. Graham and Hallie stare at each other.
EXT. CHASE HOUSE/STREET - NIGHT
Brian steps out of the shadows from the side of the Chase house and wheels his bike down to the street.
From the shadows, the glowing red eyes watch as Brian gets on the bike and begins to ride in circles in the street. TREE BRANCHES are shoved out of the way as the creature leaps from the shadows.
CREATURE'S POV
We're travelling at an unreal speed straight for Brian. He turns to look at us just as we're about to fall upon him. His mouth barely has time to drop as...
WHUMP!
The creature collides with Brian and carries him up his driveway.
In an upstairs window in the Chase house, the curtains are pushed aside and Danielle looks out onto the street.
Brian's bike lies in the middle of the street, the wheels still spinning.
Danielle releases the curtains. They cover up the window again.
CUT TO:
LATER
Danielle stands in the street staring down at Brian's bike. She looks at Brian's dark driveway.
DANIELLE
(whispers)
Brian...?
Danielle slowly walks toward the Krakow house.
INT. KRAKOW HOUSE/BRIAN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
It's dark in Brian's room. From outside the window, in the driveway below, a RUCKUS can be heard along with low ANIMAL GRUNTS and MUFFLED CRIES from Brian.
The phone on Brian's desk RINGS TWICE, then the answering machine next to the phone picks up.
BRIAN'S VOICE
(from answering machine)
Um, this is Brian Krakow's answering machine.
So, like, leave a message... or something...
please?
BEEP.
INT. CHERSKI HOUSE/SHARON'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
SHARON sits on the floor in her bedroom, leaning against her bed. She has the phone to her ear. Sharon rolls her eyes.
SHARON
(into phone)
Krakow, it's Sharon. Where are you?
Look, I can't find anyone... Kyle, Angela,
Rickie, Delia. I even called Rayanne
Graff, but she isn't around, either. When
is she around, right? I expected you to
be home, though, especially since it's a
school night. Hmm.
Sharon hangs up the phone and sits for a beat, then the phone RINGS. She answers it.
SHARON
Kyle?
(beat)
Oh, it's you. What? Rayanne, you need a
what...? Well, ask Krakow, if you can find
him. Why? Because he's Jewish! Duh!
EXT. KRAKOW HOUSE/DRIVEWAY - NIGHT
Brian lies on the ground, pinned beneath a giant WOLF MONSTER. It stands on all fours, with a paw planted firmly on his chest. Brian has trouble breathing.
CLOSE ON BRIAN'S CROTCH
A circle of liquid stains his pants.
From way down the driveway:
DANIELLE (O.S.)
Brian...?
BRIAN
(breathless)
Heh-help...
The wolf monster GROWLS low. Brian shuts up.
WOLF MONSTER
(animal growl voice)
Buurrriiaaannnnn...
Brian's eyes go wide.
BRIAN
Oooohh, God...
WOLF MONSTER
Shhuuuttt... uuuhhhhppppp...
DANIELLE (O.S.)
Brian?
The wolf monster turns its head in the direction of Danielle's voice. Its eyes flare red and it lets out a low GROWL.
Danielle comes upon the wolf monster and Brian. The wolf monster GROWLS at her. Danielle freezes in place, unable to move.
DANIELLE
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh...
The wolf monster ROARS. Danielle falls backward onto her rear.
From down the driveway:
SHARON (O.S.)
Krakow, are you home? The lights are on,
but no one's answering the front door.
The wolf monster reacts to Sharon's voice, as does Danielle and Brian.
SHARON (O.S.)
Listen, Rayanne Graff called me and said
she needed to borrow a...
Sharon walks up the driveway and sees Danielle.
SHARON
Danielle, what on earth are you doing out
here at this time...?
The wolf monster GROWLS. Sharon slowly turns her head to look at the wolf monster. She gasps when she sees it standing on Brian.
SHARON
Omigod. Nice puppy-dog.
The wolf monster BARKS at Sharon -- a short, almost cheerful bark -- then it steps off Brian, who grunts, and trots over to Sharon, panting, with its tongue hanging out.
SHARON
Omigod! Omigod!
Sharon lifts Danielle up off the ground and the two start to back down the driveway. The wolf monster pants its way after Sharon.
WOLF MONSTER
(happy)
Shhuuhhrrruuhhhnnnn...
Sharon SHRIEKS and takes off down the driveway with Danielle in tow.
DANIELLE
Oooww! You're hurting me!
The wolf monster trots along after them.
A beat, then Brian stands up. He checks the soiled front of his pants, then sheepishly creeps back into his house through the side door.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
Sharon and Danielle tear down the driveway and into the street. The headlights of an on-coming car shine brightly on Sharon, who throws Danielle out of harm's way. Danielle lands on the street with a thud. The car slams on its brakes, SCREECHING to a halt before Sharon.
INT. CHASE HOUSE/MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT
It's dark. From under the covers, Graham appears, lying on top of Hallie.
GRAHAM
(out of breath)
Did you hear something?
Hallie shakes her head "no" and pulls the covers back over the two of them.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
From behind, the wolf monster SLAMS into Sharon, sending her sprawling across the hood of the car. Sharon SCREAMS as the wolf monster begins to happily lick Sharon's face.
SHARON
Help me! It's killing me!
INT. CHASE HOUSE/MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT
Graham appears from under the covers again.
GRAHAM
You sure you didn't hear something?
HALLIE
Graham! Were you this easily
distracted when you and Patty did it?
Graham laughs.
HALLIE
What's so funny?
GRAHAM
Patty and I never did it!
Hallie joins in laughing with Graham, who pulls the covers back over their heads.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
The wolf monster continues to maul the screaming Sharon with its tongue. Danielle stares at this horrific sight.
The driver of the car steps out and walks over to Danielle. She looks up at the driver.
DANIELLE
You.
RAYANNE, smoking a cigarette, helps Danielle to her feet.
RAYANNE
Yeah. Me.
Rayanne turns to Sharon and the wolf monster.
Sharon is covered in wolf monster saliva. She tries her hardest to push the creature off her, but it's too strong.
SHARON
Oh, like, gross.
RAYANNE
(sighs)
As if I didn't have enough to deal with
right now.
Rayanne hands Danielle her cigarette.
RAYANNE
Here. Hold this, kid.
Danielle starts to put the cigarette in her mouth.
RAYANNE
Don't smoke it! Your sister is pissed
at me enough as it is.
Rayanne pulls a .357 Magnum from her bottomless hangbag and aims it at the wolf monster.
RAYANNE
One thing I always hated: werewolf season.
Rayanne squints and takes aim.
The wolf monster stops licking Sharon and looks at Rayanne and the gun she's aiming at it. The wolf monster SNARLS, then bounds over Sharon and the car and lands on Rayanne. Rayanne hits the ground. The .357 skids along the ground where it comes to rest at Danielle's feet. She looks down at the gun.
Sharon wipes wolf monster saliva from her face and neck. She sees Rayanne fighting the creature.
SHARON
Ooohhh...
Sharon jumps on top of the car hood, then leaps off the car and lands on the wolf monster's back.
SHARON
Uunnph!
Sharon tries to get her arms around the wolf monster's throat as Rayanne punches the wolf monster in the nose. The wolf monster HOWLS in pain.
EXT. CHASE HOUSE/MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT
The wolf monster's HOWL echoes out. From under the covers:
HALLIE
Oh, yeah, baby! Let it out!
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
Rayanne looks for the .357 and spots it at Danielle's feet.
RAYANNE
Don't just stand there, kid! Shoot it!
Danielle looks from Rayanne to the gun.
RAYANNE
Now, Dani, now!
Danielle's expression changes from fear to grim determination. She puts Rayanne's cigarette in her mouth, bends down, picks up the gun, and with two hands, takes careful aim at the wolf monster.
DANIELLE
My name... is Danielle!
Danielle pulls the trigger. BLAM-O!!! Danielle is thrown backward several feet.
The wolf monster HOWLS long and painfully.
INT. CHASE HOUSE/MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT
From under the covers, which are bucking wildly:
HALLIE
Yes! Now, you magnificent beast!
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
Danielle sits up and stares at the smoking .357 in her hand.
DANIELLE
Fuck me.
The wolf monster lies still. There is a massive bloody hole in its side. Its breath comes in slow waves, then stops entirely.
Sharon lifts herself off the wolf monster as Brian comes out of his house and walks down to the street. He tightens his belt on a fresh pair of pants.
SHARON
Krakow! Thanks a lot for all your help!
Rayanne tries to climb out from under the wolf monster, but it's too heavy to move.
RAYANNE
Get this thing off me!
Sharon tries to lift the wolf monster.
SHARON
Krakow! What's wrong with you? Help us!
BRIAN
I'm not touching that thing!
SHARON
It's dead!
Sharon reacts with surprise when she finds that she can actually lift the wolf monster by herself.
SHARON
Is it me or is this thing getting lighter?
Rayanne slides out from under the wolf monster. She stands up and brushes herself off.
RAYANNE
It isn't you. It's getting lighter. Look.
All stare at the wolf monster as something amazing happens. The wolf monster's fur begins to fall off in long strips, revealing bloody pink flesh beneath.
SHARON
Oh, my God...
DANIELLE
Gross!
Rayanne looks at Danielle, who's aiming the .357 at the wolf monster.
RAYANNE
Hey!
Rayanne takes the gun from Danielle.
RAYANNE
Don't get trigger happy, kid! You know
how hard silver bullets are to come by?
The last of the fur falls off the wolf monster.
RAYANNE
Hey, isn't that what's-her-name?
SHARON
I don't believe it.
The naked and bloody form of DELIA lies on the ground, surrounded by lost fur. Delia's dead eyes stare forward at nothing.
SHARON
Delia!? This thing was Delia!?
RAYANNE
I always thought she was a bit of a dog.
(beat)
Jeez, she's got a big butt.
BRIAN
Is -- is she dead?
RAYANNE
As dead as your sex life, Rosy Palm.
(quick beat)
Hey, Krakow, I'm, like, flattered, but your
fly is open.
Brian freaks and does his fly up as quickly as he can. Danielle leans over to sneak a peak.
With a flick of her wrist, Rayanne pops open the .357's chamber and removes a silver bullet.
RAYANNE
Good work, kid.
Rayanne hands the silver bullet to Danielle.
RAYANNE
Souvenir.
(beat)
Now, Krakow, I came by on business.
I got, like, a million things going on
right now. I need to borrow one of those,
you know, Stars of David from you.
BRIAN
Me?
RAYANNE
You're Jewish, right? So, like, yeah. You.
BRIAN
Okay. I'll -- I'll go get one.
RAYANNE
Hurry.
BRIAN
Okay!
Brian runs into his house. Rayanne drags Delia's body to the rear of the car.
RAYANNE
Man, and I thought she was heavy when she was a dog!
Rayanne pops the trunk and dumps Delia's body inside. She shuts the trunk, then lights a cigarette.
SHARON
Rayanne!
RAYANNE
What?
SHARON
Where did you get this car?
Rayanne looks at the car like it's the first time she's ever seen it.
RAYANNE
Oh. I dunno. Somewhere.
Brian returns with a Star of David and hands it to Rayanne. She gets into the car and nods to Danielle.
RAYANNE
You did good, kid. I'll see ya around.
Rayanne peels out and tears off down the street.
BRIAN
She's insane. A lunatic. She's going
to get us all killed one of these days.
SHARON
Krakow...
BRIAN
Yeah, Cherski?
SHARON
Shut up.
Sharon takes Danielle's hand and the two head for the Chase house. Danielle stares at the silver bullet in her hand.
DANIELLE (VO)
I bet nothing scares Rayanne Graff.
She is so cool. I'm gonna be just
like her when I grow up. Not like
boring Angela.
Sharon and Danielle enter the house and shut the front door behind them. Brian stands alone in the street. He bends down and picks up his bike, then wheels it up his driveway.
FADE OUT
THE END
But watch for "Sharon the She-Wolf" ...
