Your First Post Ever at MSCL

Post by pgh kenny » May 13th 2005, 2:20 pm

I thought it would be fun to look at the first post I ever made here and think about what I was thinking about when I made it. My first post and join date was 9/19/2002 and it is pasted below. At the point I made this first post, I think I had been following the progress of the DVD as a lurker but then felt compelled to join the fray after I got double charged like everyone else. Before placing my DVD order I had done the obligatory google search of Another Universe.com and so at the point I made this post I don't think I thought something sinister was going on. My job at the time was also a little bit more low stress than my current job, so I actually had time to write a four paragraph essay on contacting AU :)

So I'm interested in what other people were thinking about when they decided to join mscl.com...

For U.S. residents, I recommend calling AU at the toll free number. I called today about a double charge and someone immediately answered the phone. AU appears to have a database of all the billing activity, because the employee ('thomas') confirmed that I had been double billed and that my name would be put on the nightly list for refund of the overcharge.

I am not pleased that my credit card was double charged, and the slow rate (based on people's posts here) at which refunds are credited is disturbing. When I return an item to a large box or chain store, credit card refunds are issued the same day, at the point of sale and usually posted to the account within 2 to 3 days.

What is most unclear to me is how the double charges happened, technically speaking. My first 79.98 charge was in March, the double charge was in August. I'm sure their billing vendor or system didn't suddenly grow a mind of it's own. I do remember that the original plan was to simply authorize the 79.98 and then the charge would post at the shipping date, but then we all agreed to pay the 79.98 up front because an authorization can't be held for several months. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Or were people who ordered later on after the initial period also affected by double charges? here is my first post that is still on the board. I believe some of the oldest posts were deleted a few years ago.

I agree that we need to at least try to get both the last tape set and the show back into sindication. just give us an address and we can all bombard them with letters!!

wow, what an original post. ha ha I think it's dated sept. 1, 1999.

As far as I remember, we did not loose any postings from the "early days". I managed even to convert all messages from the old board (bonus points if you remember that time :-)) when we switched to this software in 2002. MSCL.com was launched August 25th 1998, but the forum wasn't added until May 25th 1999.

My first post can be seen here (July 99).
Welcome to the FanFictionForum (FFF) !
Finally, the FanFictionSite has got it's own forum. Here's the place to discuss your favorite stories and poems or just complain about the lack of updates on the site.
Heehh, "the lack of updates" ... well nothing has changed in the past six years :-)

I could be wrong, I just thought I remembered mike glenn deleting some older posts many years ago. it seems weird that my first post wasn't until september. I might be remembering wrong, though.
