New Insights
New InsightsIs it just me, or does anyone else find themselves identifying with different characters as time goes by? When I first started watching the show, I was right in the middle of all of my adolescent angst, so naturally I felt closest to Angela. Her life seemed to mirror mine: finding new friends and losing old ones, having an unrequited crush on a beautiful, distant guy, etc. Now that I'm older and married and (slightly) more mature, I find myself relating more and more to Graham and Patty. All of their actions and conversations make so much sense to me now. I used to love MSCL for their realism in depicting the lives of teens; now I can appreciate it for their realistic portrayal of married life. I'm sure that when I eventually have children of my own, I'll get a whole new insight into Patty's relationship with Angela. Any thoughts?
(I'm sorry if this is a topic that has already been discussed here. I just recently entered the world of technology-I got my computer a week ago!- and I'm just discovering all of the wonderful things on the internet. So anyway, I apologize for being behind on all of the discussion- I've missed out on so much!) Re: New InsightsWell I couldn't agree more! I can still identify with the gang (Angela and co) but now it is as something comforting about my past and knowing that we were all teenagers once. Now I am a twentysomething it is nice to relate back to those days of waiting for the next episode of MSCL and then calling my friend to discuss the events of the hour. It's like while we are all growing older the characters never will...and they are our memories. I used to fancy Jordan but now I'd go for the more mature Brian and while I still relate to Angela (I still get zits!!!) I do feel that I understand Graham alot better now. Hhmm, all very interesting.......

Re: New InsightsMaybe I'm just a kid at heart, but I still find myself identifying with Angela, as I did when I first saw this show. Despite being in a long-term relationship and having grown from my teenage years, there's still something about the spirit of Angela that intrigues me. One thing I have noticed on repeated viewings of the series is my appreciation for Brian grows. When I first saw the show, I found him to be a bit of a bother as Angela did, but now I see he was just obsessing over Angela as Angela was obsessing over Jordan.
