I just saw last Friday on Blackstar that Dune Special Edition will be out on DVD for Region 2 on October 9th. This will be the director's cut version of the 1984 film by David Lynch. The director's cut has been shown before, most recently on the sci fi channel. For those of you who just saw the theaterical cut of Dune, the director's cut does explain much more of the story. Hopefully the Region one version will come out soon. In the meantime I have put my order through blackstar. October is going to be a nice DVD month: Battlestar Galactica Epic Series & Dune Special Edition, can't wait. Lance Man
More info on Region 2 Dune DVDs
I got some info from over at duneinfo.com. A director's cut of Dune does not exist and isn't likely to be out soon or if ever, David Lynch doesn't want to do it. However, over at http://www.blackstar.co.uk there is a Special TV edition which has 35 minutes of footage not seen in the theatrical release. So good news there. The Dune Special Edition DVD Region 2 due out October 6th I have more info: New, digitally restored transfer of the original Theatric Release full 2.35:1 anamorphic image, with enhanced stereo and new 5.1 surround sound mix. Exclusive documentary featuring 2003 interviews with: Dino & Raffaella De Laurentiis, Kyle MacLachlan, Frederick Elmes (DP on second unit), Tony Gibbs (editor), David Ansen (film critic for Newsweek), Harlan Ellison (friend of Frank Herbert and fan of Lynch film who was asked by Ridley Scott to do the screenplay for Dune.), Golda Oppenheim (Production Supervisor) and Freddie Francis (Cinematographer) & Gordon Hayman (FF's Camera Op). Original Theatric Movie Trailer. They are working on other extras, but they are unconfirmed at this time. More info as I get it.
