What is your favorite "Like Duh" Jordan moment?
What is your favorite "Like Duh" Jordan moment? Here's mines:
1. "Pressure"- when Brad asked Jordan what his major is (even though high school students don't have majors), poor Jordan thought he would gotten his major in the mail. 2."The Zit"- Jordan asked Brian if the story about "the bug guy" is truth 3. "Resolutions"- when Jordan continues to call Brian "Brain" I have a lot of favorites.
There is one in The Substitute, where the camera is on Brian asking a question in the classroom, and Jordan is shown in the background wiggling his finger in his one ear, presumably cleaning it. I think that it is in The Substitute. He is wearing the striped green long-sleeved shirt. I also like the scene in the beginning of Resolutions when they have all the voice-overs of the characters saying their resolutions, and then they show Jordan in his car, and his thought his: "Wait a minute. Isn't today... New Year's Eve?" I crack up every time. "I have all these dreams where I know exactly what to say. And you tell me, you know, that you forgive me."
I like in "Resolutions" when everyone is working out what their resolution will be and Jordon is trying to determine if it's new years. Typical Jordon, a little late on everything trying to coordinate his own little world with reality.
Though I must admit the "what's your major" question is most extreme example (IMHO). By the way did anybody have a major in High School, or even a minor. And what's the deal with Brian having a triple minor? I don't remember anything like that in High School. Was I absent that day or something? That's one of those mysteries with the series that never made sense to me. "To come to your senses, you must first go out of your mind." - Alan Watts
Some high schools have majors and minors like colleges. Targeted study is vogue today. Since Brian is on the college prep. track, his having minors isn't probably unusual. Also, I don't think asking Jordan about his major is that strange either.

Patty: If Rayanne's not seeing you, and we're not seeing you, who is seeing you? Graham: And how much of you? Angela: Dad! Graham: Oh, I'm sorry! I asked a question about your life, didn't I? Woah, what came over me? http://www.last.fm/user/TomSpeed/
My high school was very college focused, but we didn't have majors or minors or anything like that. My youngest sister just graduated from the same high school last year and although they do have graduation requirements, there are still no majors or minors (good to know SOME things haven't changed since I graduated many moons ago!). Since that was my personal experience, I thought it was weird of the adults to ask Jordan about his major. Then again, I thought it was weird in the Sweet Valley High books that they had a high school sorority on campus.
To bring my post full circle, the guy who played Todd on the SVH series went to my high school. You can't imagine how funny it is when someone who graduated with your younger sister has a pin-up page in Bop magazine alongside Leo! Natasha aka candygirl :: MSCL.com
Look, if this is weird for you, being tutored? I don't mind helping you a little longer. You could have sex with me if you really want to help...I guess that's a "no"?
I mostly recall "magnet schools" from when I was in high school. Each magnet school had a particular focus -- industrial arts, drama, science, etc. If you went to a magnet school, you majored in that subject. Magnet schools were created at first to spur integration of races in the South. However, they have continued because school choice and targeted preparation/education have become popular.

I guess the whole "major", "minor" concepts were just absent in my high school. I graduated 5th in my class and knew about AP classes and taking classes at the Community College while you were still in HS (though i must admit i wasn't much for taking them), so I guess i just assumed I would have run across the idea of having a minor. Perhaps it's a regional thing, I went to HS in the Northwest United States, maybe it's more of a east coast thing? Either way, it doesn't affect the storyline much, you still get the idea about Brian being accelerated.
Something that occured to me about the Brad's "major" question was that Brad appears to be a big collegiate guy. And obviously they are having trouble relating to Jordon in the kitchen, so that is probably the first thing that popped into Brad's head. "What's your major?" has to be one of the most standardized questions in college. Just like "How was your summer?" when you come back in the fall. They are the default questions to ask. I don't think Brad thought much before he said it, and probably didn't think about how it wouldn't apply to Jordon. You know how ages tend to blend together as you get older. The ironic thing is that half the college sophomores I knew didn't know what their major was. Jordon didn't have a chance. "To come to your senses, you must first go out of your mind." - Alan Watts
I agree with you. "What's your major?" is a standard get to know you question. Brad probably didn't think to reword it to apply to high school.

Woah, what came over me? http://www.last.fm/user/TomSpeed/ I think the question seems a bit weird. However, the thing that really struck me as funny is that Jordan didnt know that he didnt have a major.
My favorite Jordan moment is when he and Patty are talking in the last episode and he just comes right out and asks her if she always wears that much makeup...
I love him asking Patty if she always wears that much makeup, too. Another Jordan moment of mine is, of course, when he realizes it is New Year's Eve at a red light in "Resolutions." Great stuff TomSpeed
