Norah Jones -- Any Thoughts?
Norah Jones -- Any Thoughts?I picked up Norah Jones's Come Away With Me tonight. I hate to admit that the last time a bought a new CD was maybe 6 months ago, not counting a few I bought for Christmas presents. Anyway, I liked her CD. I noticed she was nominated for a Grammy (I think the Grammy Awards show is on now). Anyone have any thoughts about her and her CD?

Patty: If Rayanne's not seeing you, and we're not seeing you, who is seeing you? Graham: And how much of you? Angela: Dad! Graham: Oh, I'm sorry! I asked a question about your life, didn't I? Woah, what came over me? http://www.last.fm/user/TomSpeed/
My boyfriend has her CD and it's not bad, but I don't know that she deserved five Grammys. At least she's more talented than Ashanti who keeps winning all kinds of music awards.

Look, if this is weird for you, being tutored? I don't mind helping you a little longer. You could have sex with me if you really want to help...I guess that's a "no"? Norah won a Brit award this week and I've seen her advertised on TV. I liked the snippets I heard, so ordered the CD from amazon for a much-reduced price... should arrive this week sometime.
Then bizarrely enough I went to a friend's house for dinner and they had her CD - I have to say I quite liked it. I found it very relaxing. So now I can't wait for it to arrive . --------------------------------------------- http://www.urban-hills.blogspot.com --------------------------------------------- It's a beautiful CD IMHO. Norah has a great voice and it's a perfect album for relaxing or for playing in the background (I played hours of SimCity while listening ... ). I recently saw a recoding of a live concert of her from New Orleans and it was amazing. She won an ECHO (largest german music award) last week although she's pretty unknown here. Yet.
Nora jonesMy sister gave me her CD for Christmas. Till now I haven't listened to it. This morning on the radio they kept playing snippets of her songs and I liked what I heard. So I will have to listen to the disc.
Best, Lance Man
Average piano player with an okay voice who doesn't write her own music but has no problem accepting 5 Grammies, worldwide acclaim and the monetary result of 4 million records sold. She's no better than Sheryl Crow in my book, and Sheryl Crow is the devil.

Haahahahaaahaha!! My friend and I have had several discussions about how Sheryl Crow is not a good singer, really annoying, yet inexplicably critically acclaimed. The only explanation? Her mouth. Mute the tv and just watch her mouth. It's not worth all the hullaballoo, but it is the only thing we could come up with. That, and she isn't hideously ugly. Then again, I'm not hideously ugly and no one gives me Grammys and free designer clothes. Another member of the Sheryl Crow Club (see above requirements): Shania Twain. Look, if this is weird for you, being tutored? I don't mind helping you a little longer. You could have sex with me if you really want to help...I guess that's a "no"? Nononono, Celine Dion is the devil, trust me. Nobody sings more annoying songs than her. Ugh. Okay, maybe Withney Houston and Mariah Carey are also nominees for that category. And I'll out myself: Yes, I own all Sheryl Crow albums - I like her music, especially the live CDs . But I don't like Shania Twain. Absolutely! Celine is dire, as are her songs. Good call Has anyone ever heard of Jamiroquai outside the UK? If so, I'd put him up for best male according to dTheater's criteria. Same song churned out many many times, critical acclaim, vast album sales etc. Why? Best band for the above mentioned category: Oasis. Both of the gallagher brothers should crawl back under their stone, IMHO. --------------------------------------------- http://www.urban-hills.blogspot.com --------------------------------------------- Egad! You are all correct. Sheryl Crow, Celion Dion (cringing) and Shania Twain. Okay let's look at the formula for sucess: ego+tight clothing+exposed belly button= Millions of Dollars? Be afraid, be very afraid. Lance Man Starbug, I absolutely love your avatar. Another Red Dwarf fan? Where did you get your image? Are going to get Red Dwarf on DVD? Best, Lance Man Britney, Xtina (as I believe she now calls herself). Oh wait, I forgot the critical acclaim... JLo. Now there's a woman with ego, tight clothing, exposed belly button and critical acclaim; there you go . --------------------------------------------- http://www.urban-hills.blogspot.com --------------------------------------------- He did the Godzilla soundtrack back in the 90's, right? Yeah, he's pretty annoying - but can he beat Michael Bolton (*gnaaaargh*)? Oh, at least they're always good for a laugh, like when they got recently engaged in a fight in an italian restaurant in Germany One of them lost his front teeth ... that was hilarious And their early songs (their first album) was pretty good. In this band category I would nominate the "Spice Girls". Okay, I actually bought their first album myself, but that was a weak moment... Yeah, that's right, but that was actually the one song that was slightly different from the 16,000 others he's reproduced And I completely agree re Michael Bolton This topic is bringing back soooo many cringeworthy memories. Now I'm thinking 80s jacket with rolled up sleeves, ridiculously long and fuzzy hair, and old ladies fainting in the audience! --------------------------------------------- http://www.urban-hills.blogspot.com --------------------------------------------- Who is onlineUsers browsing this forum: No registered users and 0 guests |
