Chicago -- The Musical

Post by TomSpeed » Feb 12th 2003, 11:19 am

Has anyone seen Chicago yet? One of my favorite actresses, Renee Zellweger, is in it. She got an Oscar nomination for best actress. I'm not a big musical fan, but if word of mouth is good, I'll see it.

Graham: And how much of you?
Angela: Dad!
Graham: Oh, I'm sorry! I asked a question about your life, didn't I? Woah, what came over me?

I might take my mom to see it this weekend if I go home to PA. There is no way that I will be able to take my husband. He is just not into musicals. I think he is still mistrusting my taste in movies, since I made him go see Beloved.

I finally saw Chicago last night. I can't really tell you what I expected. I guess I expected to be disappointed given all of the hype surrounding the movie. However, I was not disappointed. I loved it. Renee Zellweger is awesome. Richard Gere is surprising. If you haven't seen it, you should. Anyway, Salon has a good review here.

GRR. The link to the review is broken. I reported it. Hopefully, the link will be fixed soon.

I finally saw Chicago on DVD, and I liked it! Not surprising since I like musicals, but I was pleasantly surprised by everyone's singing and dancing abilities (not enough to be excited about seeing Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez in the Dance with Me remake, but...). Rob Marshall did a excellent job interpreting the play on film (which can be really difficult) and the sets were great.

I love reading who else was considered for movie parts and trying to picture them in the movie instead (imdb is great for that!). I'm glad that Richard Gere ended up with this part instead of John Travolta, who turned the part down several times, so that we could see him sing and dance as a smarmy lawyer.

:D

I wonder if Phantom of the Opera will fare as well.

Look, if this is weird for you, being tutored? I don't mind helping you a little longer.
You could have sex with me if you really want to help...I guess that's a "no"?
