"Grand Army" - 2020 version of MSCL

If you have Netflix have a look at "Grand Army"! I am pretty sure the creators had MSCL in mind when they wrote it. First few episodes are a little slow but so were the first few MSCL episodes :)

You'll see it when you see it :)

I think it's the kind of slow storytelling, the camera movements and how close to life the characters are portrayed.

Wow, thank you for the tip :D

I also reccomend you to all, "Rise"(2018) by Jason Katims, it's really feels like a spiritual reboot of "My So Called Life" and "Friday Night Lights"....of course cancelled after one season.

It was canceled. It was a decent success but there were allegedly problems with the show runner which resulted in some allegations on Twitter. I am not comfortable going deeper into that as you can only find one side of the story online.

So in this regard Grand Army is also like MSCL although the reasons seem to be very different.
