It's a very surreal experience....It's a very surreal experience.......watching the show again. It really is. I got them around 4 this afternoon, I started with the "Pilot" and now I'm on "The Zit." The quality of the DVDs is awesome as far as I can tell (though I agree with everyone else about the lame menus), and I'm just getting lost in these episodes again. I can't believe, after all this time, that they're playing on my TV screen, through my PS2 of all things (again, no quality glitches).
I've read the transcripts over and over, but it's not the same as watching. Reading the transcript, I think, "Wow, they say 'like' a hell of a lot," and then when you see the episodes, it comes out perfectly natural. The way Angela says things during her voiceovers in just the right way...it feels real. Especially the Patti/Graham, Parent/Angela interactions. Seven years ago I couldn't appreciate the genuineness or appreciate the quality of the acting. But now it's, "Oh my God, that happened between my mother and my sister," or, "My parents have had similar conversations." And I remember scenes so clearly sometimes that it's like intense deja vu (i.e. closing scene of "Guns & Gossip" was imprinted on my brain way back when). Just goes to show how much it impacted me. Everything from some of the scene transitions (especially, "Dancing in the Dark," wow) to the brutal honesty expressed even through the way things are lit is amazing. These actors never missed a mark, and I think my crush on Angela is coming back in a big way (the 12/13-year-old in me is giddy right now ![]() I'm right back in '95, experiencing it again, and it's gonna hurt when they come to the end. This was a beautiful, beautiful show, and I'm so very glad I have it to see again and again. I'm watching My So Called Life, and it's surreal. *smacks himself in the face to check for dream-state* But real at the same time. Weird, huh? I've said this to Jason privately, but thanks for everything you did getting this made. For me, it was worth it. May everyone have a chance to experience what I am. -Pat
Pat, I simply CANNOT wait. And thank you for taking us there. Getting these dvds will ALMOST make this horror story (AU) worth it. Or at least it will provide a soothing balm, and wash away the awful AU taste. Ya, can't wait - I really want to see the one where Angela and Rayanne are in that play - after Rayanne and Jordan... ya know - and the lines they're reciting really hit home and are HUGE and it's super tense...I think I've only seen that once. It was so sad....
Anyway, thanks man ![]() Can't wait can't wait can't wait can't wait can't wait...... ![]() "Oh, just say the word and she's a footnote in history. I'll make it look like a painful accident..."
Just the other day I was wondering whether finally watching MSCL would still be as good after this whole AU fiasco. Ya know, questioning whether or not all the negativity would somehow make the show less then amazing. Well, after reading your post, I know it won't. This is the first time in awhile that I've actually been excited about being able to sit down and hear things like 'I just like how he's always leaning' and 'We had a time'. Thanks.
