look at the banner ad.

I think that it is wrong to be promoting a set and not telling people that the product does not ship with the lunchbox or bonus disc.

There's got to be something illegal about that right? And what about the fact that AU is "SOO overwhelmed" now. What about when the general public gets suckered into their deal, and then doesn't get the bonus stuff delivered to them. I can't imagine how many irate phone calls Wade will have to "suffer" through then.

Truth in advertising: "Less Than 1000 Left"

Since none exists, well... Zero is less than 1000, right?

[Edit: At first I didn't see the banner because I was looking at the top banner. The banner Jason was talking about is on the side. (Thanks for straightening me out Howard!) There is also a horizontal banner that also sometimes shows up if you click here:

Anyways, the other banner looks like this:

BTW, as of this moment, the anotheruniverse website doesn't appear to be working. finally some mercy for the masses.

My banner looked different, and ran down the right side of the page, not across the top...

Let's see if this "Copy Target" thing works:

less than 1,000!

Post by smackey » Oct 28th 2002, 7:59 pm

Too bad that "Less than 1,000 left" isn't a counter that we could watch skyrocket in real time as people cancelled...

Less than 1,047 left...
Less than 1,384 left...
Less than 2,519 left...

To be totally honest, I don't find their ad particularly offensive,
and I can see the motivation to distinguish their product from what
can be had at other on-line vendors.

No one can expect them to advertise how inept their handling
of this product has been.

Hopefully, all new orders will state, at the time of purchase,
that the bonus DVD and lunchbox are shipping at a later date.

But, then, I forgot what company I was talking about. ;)

Mark, that was my main concern. The site doesn't say anything.

I laughed out loud when I read this. I count myself as part of the proud group that cancelled their AU orders.

It seems like they just keep wiggling their way down into the deep do until it's up to their eyeballs.

Aren't any authorities even looking at the business practices of these goons?

Too small potatoes?

I wonder if i should email an enquiry about my overcharge and the status of my order for the umpteenth time.

So-Called Loon-

(Love the photo, btw) I think that if enough of us report them to
the IFCC site, and refer to Jason's original complaint number (see
other thread for that), then something will happen.

I know Jason had his deadline for credits and double-charges to be
dealt with, but I came in so late, only 15 days ago, to the whole dispute/
cancellation process, that I am giving AU through this Friday to sort out
my cancelled orders, and owed $314.96 before I report them to the
IFCC.

If they have their accounts in order enough to ship product out, they
have them in enough order to start issuing refunds/credits.

In light of all the corporate scandals in the last 12 months, I would
imagine things like defrauding the pubilic over the internet are taken
very seriously.

regards,

Mark

If you actually read the order page it is kind of funny [italics mine]:

"This package will include a limited edition My So-Called Life Lunchbox, a bonus DVD with over 2 hours of interviews with cast and crew and early shipping on the My So-Called Life DVD set."

So they are saying that the lunchbox and bonus DVD will ship later, just in a really subtle way. The 5-disc set of episodes ships early, implying that the bonus DVD and lunchbox ship later. You'd have to be a lawyer to figure that one out. Of course, they still don't advertise the shipping date for the lunchbox or bonus dvd.

Let me pose this question to everyone:

How is it that AU.com seems to have plenty of money to advertise on web sites like imdb.com and google.com but getting them to pay the lunchbox vendor was nearly impossible. Yeah, I'm sad I won't get the lunchbox since I cancelled, but it feels really good not to support someone else's greedy actions.

Hey pgh_kenny,

http://www.cafepress.com has a customizable lunchbox. you can just upload an image and they print it on the box. Perhaps you should make an alternative version for those who cancelled. Can't use MSCL artwork, but I am sure there is plenty you could think of.

As for where the money is coming from. I suspect that they submitted a purchase order and did not have to pay up front. That's how it has been in other cases. Some vendors I have not mentioned here actually asked me not to say anything about it.
