E! channel news banner on MSCL

Post by kappster » Oct 27th 2002, 1:10 pm

Strange...I was just watching the E! channel show True Hollywood Stories on Brandon Lee and they ran a news banner across the bottom of the screen and one of the things it reported was this...

DVD watch...Claire Danes...My So-Called Life box set...6 discs...all 19 episodes...in stores Tuesday.

I know its not true, but thought it was strange to see. Not sure where people get their information from.

AU's latest press release, which still makes them sound like the exclusive dealer.

My Amazon order is showing an estimated delivery date of Nov 7th.
I arranged for 2-day shipping, so that would mean a release date of Tuesday. However the page for the DVD still shows Nov 19 as the release date. :? I will e-mail Amazon today to find out what has caused this discrepancy.
If only there were a button somewhere that I could push. To force me to stop talking.

no...no...no...not that tuesday...it said this tuesday (OCT 29) and it said in stores, not on the internet.

Regardless, i just posted it because I thought it was interesting to see that come across my TV screen. It is clearly misinformation and I don't think you will be seeing your amazon order on the 7th of November, I think it will probably be the later date.

But who really knows at this point...there are clearly several release dates out there and i don't think anyone seems to no which is right. Guess you will just have to keep waiting for it to appear in your mailbox.

This Tuesday! Wow, that must be a mistake....or is it? I'm beginning to think even BMG doesn't know when this DVD will be available.

Could you post the reply you get from Amazon if you do email them? I'm in the same 'boat' as you with the 2-day shipping and November 7th estimated arrival date. It would be nice if we did get them by then, but I figure it's probably only later in November like their site says.

I just received a reply from Amazon.
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.

I've checked your order and can confirm that we are currently
preparing it for shipment. We still expect to ship it in time for
delivery by the date listed in Your Account: November 7, 2002.

We will send you an e-mail at the time of shipment. Please contact
us again if you do not receive this shipment confirmation by November
6, 2002.
You can also check the status of your order, including estimated dates
of shipment and delivery, by clicking the Your Account link at the top
of most pages of our store or by following this link:

http://www.amazon.com/your-account

Please keep in mind that the availability and shipping time frames
listed on our web site are estimates, not guarantees. While we do our
best to adhere to these estimates, our inventory is constantly
changing based on information we receive directly from our suppliers.

Occasionally, unexpected fluctuations in supply will add time to our
original availability estimate. I do understand that such changes can
be frustrating for you. Please accept my most sincere apologies for
this inconvenience.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com. We hope you enjoy your order.

Best regards,

I guess Amazon will be shipping around the same time as AU! Now I'm really glad I cancelled. AU doesn't deserve my business.

I must say, it's really nice knowing that I got a response to my e-mail, and within a reasonable amount of time too. I think AU is the first company I've ever purchased from that virtually never returns e-mails, phone calls, etc. I think Ross needs one of these books:

Yeah, I know what you mean. Amazon is a really good company to deal with and it's not hard to have screw ups fixed either if they do happen.

So we should expect our sets to ship by the 5th to have for the 7th(2-day shipping people). That's good!

I am glad I cancelled my order, but I hate to think that I'm not going to get my money back just because that sucks. Even though my money is long gone and I don't even really expect it back it's just pathetic.. everything that happened.

Thanks for posting the reply from Amazon!

According to previous information, BMG should had started delivered DVDs to AU on 25th Oct, in case that BMG also deliver DVDs to another store, that store might really have the DVDs on 29th Oct theoretically.

Hmm....

When I emailed Amazon.com about a realistic ship/delivery date (still said June 2003 - Nov 2002 on their site), they promptly replied saying that they'd correct their site (which they did) and that my actual delivery date for the set is Nov. 22nd. By the way, I also chose 2-day shipping. So...reading these other posts about Nov. 7th and everything makes me want to email Amazon again!

PS - sorry I couldn't post the email.

Amazon release date

Post by lance » Oct 27th 2002, 11:17 pm

Denie & Jessica Popsicles,

I am in the exact same boat as you guys (two rows behind, next to the life preservers). I ordered with Amazon with two day shiping. If this is true, and I hope it is true, two days after election day many of us will have the DVDs!

Thank you, thank you Denie for posting your letter from Amazon.

All my best,

Lance Man :D

Maybe Amazon is getting one shipment and then some more and the people who ordered by a certain time will have them earlier? Hah ok, no that's probably not it. Maybe I shouldn't expect to get mine by the 7th, but it would be nice if I did. Either way, it's going to be in my hands soon.. finally. Woohoo!

I think I just might email Amazon about it too, just to see what they say. I emailed them a while back about the wierd June dates and they confirmed that I'd get it by November 7th, but that was before the date on their page changed.

It's interesting that Amazon is giving customers such varied information.
In my e-mail to them I made sure to state that they had changed the estimated release date from Nov 5th to the 19th, yet my account still showed delivery by Nov 7. I asked them when I should expect to receive my order.

I truly hope the Nov 7 date is accurate, but I have a feeling the customer representative who e-mailed me back might have misinformation. Whatever happens, I feel better knowing Amazon is a reputable retailer and I will get my DVDs.
I can almost smell the plastic wrapping.... :D
