I am one of them, after all. I am looking forward to my set as much as, if not more than (if you'll pardon my pride in my fandom), any of us. The difference is that I went to LA, interviewed Marshall and Ed and Winnie, and hung out with Ross all day talking about how cool the set is shaping up to be. And obviously not everyone has the benefit of being so involved. The circumstances surrounding this set are not "more than a little suspicious", imho. The various temporary SNAFUs that have popped up over the course of this project thus far may have been cause for suspicion, but I think that Jason has been quick to address each one and, now that he has the ability, has been quick to resolve each matter. Ross is planning on releasing many other shows to DVD. MSCL is just the trial run to get to know the process, the proof-of-concept to prove to the DVD community that he can and will do everything in his power to do it right. If he screws this one up, it's all been for naught. As big as AU is, Ross isn't going to do something to blow its reputation simply to rip off 3k people for $100/each. -- from Home Theater Forum - My So Called Life - DVD Boxset Release Details Posted: May 3rd, 2002 12:34 PM Post (#16 of 435 posts) DanGuyF Member -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Member Since: May 2nd, 2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The lucky one was me. Interviewing Winnie, Marshall, and Ed was an experience and a half! I can't speak highly enough about the three of them of giving their time to this project. I also got to hang out with Ross, the gentleman who, unlike every other company that MSCL.com approached, saw the market for extras-packed collectible DVD releases of "niche" shows. I am excited by his plans for further releases and by his understanding that selling to diehard fans requires providing a quality product. -- So there you have it. It appears that Ross was hoping to get into putting out collectible DVD release of "niche" shows. It even appears that at one point there was talk of doing this with Jason and Gord. (you will see this if you check the URLs.) This was Jason's first attempt at doing this (although he had knowledge of the business due to his work at BMG ... sitting in on DVD development meetings etc). This was also Ross's first attempt at this (with no experience). Jason acted as Consultant and then Customer Service person for Ross during this project. Jason discovered (through this process) that he could do this on his own. Jason and Gord joined forces as Dry Grass Partners and have (had) been claiming all credit for the MSCL DVD set. (on various websites ... search around they'll turn up) hell, I'm dead tired ... I don't know, but this really doesn't look good. I posted the other day about BMG telling Ross that someone was trying to take the MSCL DVD project away from him and bring in another company (ie Ventura). (its around somewhere - BMG revelation to Ross) I wonder if Jason is getting accurate info from BMG irt meetings with Ross etc. [shrugs] MY MISTAKEsorry I meant to hit reply but hit new post instead.
this belongs in the 10/13 Update topic. Re: MY MISTAKEI hope you prove me wrong and these DVDs are paid for by Wednesday.
If they are not, are you going to blame me and my so-called conspiracy to have the project taken away from AU? Because if it was a conspiracy, I'd say it was a pretty unsucessful one. And why did Ross state that I was going to get paid what I was owed if I conspired against him? You see, this kind of logic works both ways. As for competing against AU, why were we working on a contract for me to consult and find content for the future DVD projects? Like the other contract for MSCL, the future projects contract languished unsigned. AU has one, and only one, way to prove me wrong. Pay for the DVDs and deliver them to customers. Otherwise, don't fault me for trying to give fair warning. Re: MY MISTAKEhey, I'm still not sure of the reason for the Wednesday deadline! And Jason, you have said that if AU doesn't pay up the DVD sets will go to other retailers ... right? Won't that mean that AU has paid for the rights and manufacturing and whatever else was involved ... okay, okay, for your benefit - they have paid for the rights (or am I wrong?) ... I must be completely "punch drunk" from sleep deprivation cos this is starting to sound silly. [shaking self awake] okay so they did pay some money ... right? ... and they will be responsible for outstanding payments due ... right? ... and they won't get the DVDs from BMG. Plus they have to pay back all of our double charges. So basically the "project" was lost to them either way. (whether somehow forced out or through their own ineptitude or a combination of both) whatever.... I'd say it would appear pretty successful. Why did he say he would pay you if you conspired against him? Well maybe because you did the work and he owes you for work done??? I'm not going to blame you ... hell, I may not even blame Ross. I think there may have been some screw ups on all sides ... and if there were then that would be unfortunate. But I'm not going to jump at the chance to put Ross out of business because of this ... I'm not sure how fair that is in this situation. (if, on the other hand, he has run off with our money - I'll certainly fill out your handy forms ... but I sincerely doubt that he has.) I have one more question to you before I hit the sack - do you have some sort of alarm that goes off when I post? ![]() go to bed Jason, it will probably be a long day tomorrow .... Re: MY MISTAKEBMG was paid $10K deposit, which was lost (I am not blaming AU for this).
GWhiz got the initial $4k, is owed about $8500 If the discs are not paid for ($190K balance for 5K units) those discs go to whoever wants to buy them. The due date for this payment is Wed, Oct 16. My choice of dates was based on this. If those discs are not paid for on Wed, there is no chance that AU customers get this before or at the same time as the customers for other retailers. Have to go running now. Jason
Re: MY MISTAKE
Well i've certainly had enough of your carping. It's so simple. I was charged $20, then $79.98, then $115. It has been nearly 8 months since this all started and AU, to which all the money went, has not delivered the product, nor a refund for the overcharge (which i've contacted them about, at least 5 times). The lunchboxes aren't finished. Heard nothing about what state the bonus disk is in. Virtually all claims/statements by AU/Ross have not come to pass, or have proven to be outright lies. AU deserves to get drilled! ![]() Been a member since sometime BR (before Ross)
