People from Canada...
People from Canada...So, I have been reading this board since the day I pre-ordered my boxset back in february 2002 and right now I have some serious questions because I need to make up my mind.
First of all, I have to say that I am from Canada and I never had one problem with another universe but I admit that I am very tired of waiting. I paid the full 99.98$ US (because there was no canadian price) back in april and I am still waiting when I could have use this money for something else. My first question is, does anyone know if http://www.amazon.ca or any other canadian places will offer the boxset (with a canadian price)? And even if they don't, I need to ask if the bonus disc will be really worth 50$ CAN. I don't really care about the lunchbox because it will probably end up somewhere in my basement! Right now, the bonus disc is the only thing that keep me from cancelling my order with another universe. Since, I have no idea what is on the bonus disc, who will do it, when will it be shipped, etc? it is hard for me not to cancel my order and order on amazon.com where yes I will still pay in US but I will save 50$ CAN! So, I need some answer about the bonus disc ... is it really worth 50$ CAN! Anyone in Canada who cancelled with another universe or are staying with them? I need some opinions! Dominique
I am from Canada.
Amazon is pretty bad at shipping TO Canada : every I order, I have to pay for the TPS and 5$ of additional fees ( Another Universe could be the same thouhgt ) at the customs. But you should check if Amazon.ca, they might offer it... I am sticking with AU for now, because : a ) I want the DVD and the bonus material b ) I might actually use the certificate, which might make up part of the difference c ) I was billing in March, so I kinda of paid for it long ago.
Thank you for your answer
amazon.ca are great with the shipping but I never ordered anything from amazon.com so I have no idea. Right now, they don't have the boxset but I would like them to have it. Just like you, I paid for my boxset a long time ago but I am still not sure if the bonus material is really worth 50$. I don't care about the lunch box and since we have no idea what will really be on the bonus disc, I cannot decide! I still believe we should be able to use the 30$ gift certificate for the boxset. Right now, all I want is answers and a shipping date because I am seriously thinking that people who bought it on amazon.com will get before we do!
Well, I order both from Amazon.com and Amazon.ca, and feel like it's not even the same company !
My Amazon.com order are late and I get extra custom fees. My Amazon.ca orders arrive 24 to 48 hours after order, because Amazon.ca has a special deal with Post Canada. However, amazon.ca doesn't seem to have My So-Called Life !!! As for the money difference, it is really up to you... Amazon is still listing Nov.5 as the street date. This means they will receive it the week prior to that date, which is the last week in October. They will probably ship thir orders on Oct 31st so that their customers get them by the street-date (shipping a few days before street-date is common). Today is the 11th. The earliest this whole mess with BMG will be resolved is the 14th. Then BMG has to pack AU's order (since they haven't been paid, they probably haven't packed the order yet). So, with shipping to AU, the earliest AU will get them is the following week (Oct. 21st) . Ross has stated it will take 2 weeks to ship all the orders. So, the best you can hope for is to receive the set ONE WEEK before those ordering from amazon. That's certainly worth a $40 - $60 premium, isn't it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
For what it's worth, I'm in the U.S.A., and have ordered from Amazon.com a number of times, and they've always been amazingly helpful and reliable. I've also ordered from amazon.co.uk, also with no problems at all. And on the 6th I ordered some stuff from Amazon.ca, and they promptly shipped it on the 10th (and that includes some stuff that they said ships in 1 to 2 weeks). Of course, I haven't actually received the package yet, so I can't say anything more, but I'm not concerned about it. We'll see about customs, though. ![]() Good luck everybody. so says Sparx.
I have yet to be charged taxes or handling ordering from Amazon.com, even on very expensive orders, since the drop ship to Canada first. I have nothing good to say about Amazon.ca, who have let me down on both orders I placed with them by claiming the item wasn't released when .com had both in stock for a lower price. .ca also charge GST and PST.
I also ordered back in February and haven't decided what I'm doing yet. If there is something worth buying at AU with the GC and they ship it free with the lunchbox, I'll consider it, otherwise I'll be cancelling.
So, I think it is clear that people who bought it at amazon will get it before we did. I am so tired of waiting!
I e-mailed amazon.ca so I will wait for their answer. I also want Ross to answer the questions we all have... TODAY! I will decide what I do after I get the answers but it is possible that I cancel. They need to let us use the 30$ gift certificate on the boxset because for me a gift certificate doesn't mean a thing. Nothing on the website is worth 30$ for me and I would have to pay the shipping. No thank you... Right now, I am really not sure the bonus materials we get is worth 50$ CAN!
amazon.ca *IS* selling MSCL DVD box set!I just checked amazon.ca and they have the MSCL Box Set listed with a release date of November 12, 2002. The list price is $143.26CDN, amazon.ca's price is $100.28CDN (a savings of $42.98CDN). This is eligible for free express shipping. *But does not include applicable provincial tax (which in Ontario is GST + PST which is $17.70CDN).*
If you paid 99.98USD for your set from AU, or $158.91CDN (as of exchange rate today), then ordering from amazon.ca saves you $58.63CDN. Plus duty charges and taxes. (tax alone is about another $17.64CDN) Total savings (NOT including duty charges) = $76.27CDN. Make sure to check magazines and newspapers for amazon.ca's Promotional Certificates (discount coupons) ... might be worth while to spend some time seeing if you can find one before ordering! I will check tomorrow and if I find anything I will post magazine name here. If anyone else finds one could they please do the same? If any Brits are reading this - I did a quick check on amazon.uk and they don't appear to be selling it ... this may be because it is still being listed on amazon as REGION 1 ENCODING (US and Canada only). (?????) amazon.ca couponI found this at a number of Canadian coupon sites online -
Note - This is a coupon for NEW customers only. with it you get $10 off a minimum $50 order The coupon code is - CANADASMAG5T Not sure how this works but maybe someone can give it a shot and let us know if it works for them. Cheers! Amazon.ca has weird shippingI have had a whole bunch of DVD's on order from Amazon.ca (pre ordered since the site opened). All were pre-ordered weeks in advance of the street date, and NONE had shipped by street date. This means that I could go to my local B&M and get them for less money at times, and did not have to wait the additional 2-4 weeks after shipping to get them.
That being said, I am seriously thinking about cancelling my AU order, complaining to the local AG in Ontario, filing a greivence with BBB, and getting my CC company to sick thier lawyers on AU.
Thank you Cate for the info.
This morning I had an e-mail from amazon.ca saying that they did have it for sale right now but to check the website and they could have it soon. That was soon! As for the price, people will probably think it is high but I remember when Felicity and Once and Again first made to the website. It was very expensive and now it is a good price so who knows maybe the MSCL price will go down. I think this is what I needed to make up my mind about my order with another universe. Unless Ross change something for the people in canada. I will call my credit card company and explain to them what happened and I will cancel with AU, probably this monday. I mean it does not look like we will get the boxset anyway with AU... I e-mailed Ventura last night so I should have an answer this monday, maybe another place in Canada will sell the boxset.
I would have a backup plan in place in case amazon.ca falls through. I had 2 limited edition items preordered with them for months, the street date came and went. I emailed about availability and at first the said it was just late. A week later they cancelled my orders without notice claiming they weren't released. I ordered both items from Amazon.com and they shipped the same day, no taxes, and wound up costing less than my preorder price.
PS. The CANADASMAG5T coupon worked for me even though I'm a returning customer (even though nothing ever shipped). Who is onlineUsers browsing this forum: No registered users and 5 guests |
