People who pre-ordered 4-19...

Post by hollis27 » Oct 8th 2002, 1:11 am

OK, first of all, I apologize for this post. I realize I sound like an idiot, and in all honesty, I haven't been feeling overly sharp today. :P
OK, what I can't figure out is how much money I'll lose if I stick with AU. I keep hearing people talk about being out around $60, and I'm not sure that applies to me. I ordered episodes 4-19, in the preorder phase before the prices went up. (I could just check the old statement from when I got charged, and do the math, if I had any idea where it was at this moment). Thanks to anyone who's already done the math and is willing to help out dazed & confused me! 8)

You probably paid $89.99 for the set. The Amazon set is $67.49. This means you will save $22.50. In addition to this, you will get the first 3 episode dvd. You won't get the bonus disk, or the lunchbox, but if these aren't worth $22.50, then you should go with Amazon.com

Along with this, you need to think about if AU really deserves your money anymore. I don't know how many problems you've had with them though, so that's your choice.

I'm in your exact position, and so far, its not worth it for me to stay with AU, unless they severly sweeten the deal. I'm not going to let a comany use my money to get a product made, double charge me, lie to me CONSTANTLY and let this continue for MONTHS at a time. I don't pay to be f*cked, thank you very much.

Thanks for giving me that info, it's very helpful. Well, I'm right there with ya on feeling like I've been dicked around. I'm waiting a bit to make a decision, simply because I don't see that there's any rush. AU doesn't even have a ship date, and I want to confirm whether Nov 4 is the actual date for Amazon or if what Ross is saying about the 19th is true, or what the hell's going on. Also a bit nervous about getting my money back from AU if I cancel - I was double charged btw. Have you cancelled your order yet, or are you also waiting for more info from AU?

I'm waiting to see what Ross is going to offer to sweeten the deal.

He's posted here that he will offer something special for those of us who ordered in the first 2500, and something in addition to this for those of us that were overcharged.

What I've done is gone and preordered on Amazon, since it COSTS NOTHING UNTIL THEY SHIP. Now I just have to wait until I'm actually told what I've ordered through AU to decide whether to cancel or not.

Ross just said tonight that he'll handle cancelations himself, so there shouldn't be any messups...but who the f*ck knows if he's competant to get that right at this point.

It doesn't hurt to preorder on Amazon.

Hey, have you ever thought if your ep 1-3 disk will fit in with the new sets? That's another reason I might just go with Amazon, cause I'd kinda like to be sure the whole set will fit together.

I have been thinking about that actually, as I'd also like it all to fit together. I seem to remember hearing that if you already had 1-3 and ordered 4-19, it would fit. But obviously, that means absolutely nothing. I've decided I'm going to do the same thing you did, preorder from Amazon, and see if things pick up at AU in the meantime.

Those who pre-ordered 4-19

Post by jmwoodward » Oct 8th 2002, 6:17 pm

This whole DVD situation is really frustrating. I really think I should call AU tomorrow and cancel my order. They have overcharged me and they haven't been able to deliver on any of their release dates. I can't understand why in the world they posted the 9/17 date. I don't know if their waiting to get the DVD's in their hands before they tell us another shipping date or what, however it seems to me that a company that really cared about its customers would give them some kind of update on the situation. I think what I'm going to do is wait a couple of more weeks and see if the DVD's actually ship. If I don't receive them in the next couple of weeks I am definitely going to go with Amazon. I've ordered countless things from them and have never had a single problem. I believe that if they say they're going to have the DVD on Nov. 5, they're going to have them. Can AU say the same? Who know? They never give us any info. I, of course am also worried about cancelling my order. Who knows how long it will take to get my account credited. I just want this all to be over!

To be fair, Ross has said in another thread that he is expecting them in a week. So i would estimate that they should be in our hands (if he is in fact not bullshitting us) in about 3 weeks. So he has given some form of an update.

And i can understand why he isn't giving any firm date. Look at what happened with the last 3 firm dates. And it just makes us all madder when he says a date and can't deliver. In the last time he didnt have enough sense to overestimate (not that it would have really helped in those situations), and he tried to please us or atleast sedate us for a few days.

all i know is this whole thing will undoubtebly taint my future online purchasing -- and that's sad

:(

i haven't posted much at all, but i've checked the boards since Feb.

all the DVD stuff doesn't REALLY affect me, because i figure in the end i'll get them one way or another, and i'm not really in a huge hurry since yes i did love the show, but i haven't seen it since it went off the air

so when i see it, i will be addicted again i'm sure -- but till then, i'm patient

i just don't think about it :) i think about Buffy

later ;)

Hmmm, I must admit that this never occurred to me. Does anyone know if the $20 was a non-refundable deposit? I mean will all the s**t that's been going on, I doubt AU would have a leg to stand on in terms of actually claiming this. I mean, as someone else posted on this site, AU should be giving anyone who was double billed the set for FREE! That's right, FREE!

I read in one of the posts by Ross that the $20 would be refunded as well. I'm not sure if that applies to all pre-orders or what, but I did read that somewhere. Feel free to cancel, if you'd like.
