A layer change on a DVD is a common thing on DVDs and isn't considered a problem.
I agree, I don't consider a layer change as a problem, that's how DVD9s (dual layer DVDs) work. But it can be done better or worse.

for instance the Buffy DVDs. Some of them have only 3 episodes (at least in Europe, where the show is released as half-season-boxes containing 11 episodes each). Ok, they have some bonus material, but it definitely is not as long as a single episode and there is still no visible layer change. So there has to be a way to make the layer change during a fade out or between the episodes. Otherwise Universal couldn't have moved the layer change in "Amelie"

I don't know WHAT they need to do this or if it would be a lot of work. Just saying that it couldn't hurt to ask, right?

I have noted the layer change and will bring it up to BMG and see the effect it would have on release. If it is very common, i am willing to let it slide.

Well, it would delay the set, that's for sure. If Jason has to get word to BMG today, that means it's probably being replicated tomorrow. If they delay that then they'd lose their spot at the replication plant. Not worth it for something that isn't even a problem.

Universal could probably move the layer change around because there was other material on the disc. If you move something from the second layer to the first layer, you end up shifting the position of the layer change in the feature.

If it would delay the release it certainly isn't worth changing it, that's for sure.

but please also talk about the subtitles overlapping the credits. As a non-Amercian I could even live with that, but for some people it might be a problem to understand the episode

Now up: Betrayal.

I think this song is like burned into my brain now.

OK, Violent Femmes scene up now. Another scene I am glad we didn't have to cut out. (FYI, nothing was cut).

I always thought that the pauses and stuff were because of the DVD players.
Uhm.. on the back of A LOT of DVDs they explain the layer change and that they will trigger a pause because of the changing of layers.

I do not think (unless it takes forever for the layers to change?) that this should be fixed or tried to be fixed. Like Gord said they probably wouldn't even do it because it's such a common thing.

I do not want the release date pushed back any more. Unless there is a really big problem then I could wait.

I am Sooooooo EXCITED about all this!!
At last AT LAST - proof that it will all happen.. I am really looking forward to my set. Jason - you are the luckiest guy at the moment :)

Tell them to get a move on with our sets...
I think mine will be on a continual loop for ages.

P.s. Mayhaps me and my middlesborough chum should get together and watch the set?? Just a thought :)

Just because it's a common thing does not make it a good thing. It's actually been quite a while since I've seen a layer change like that; they were more common with earlier DVDs.

Jason should definately ask about this, but I think at this late date nothing can be done.

Of course, if it REALLY bothered you, you could always rip just that one episode to DVD-R. No layer changes there :) :) :)

Umm....you haven't even seen the layer change yet.

Like I've already said a few times in this thread, layer changes are common and are nothing to worry about. I saw layer changes in "The Sopranos Season 3" which I reviewed this weekend, so they still happen in current releases.

The layer change delay varies from one player to another. My Sony player has about a 1 second pause while others are longer or shorter. The pause is caused by the laser refocusing on the other layer.

If you don't want to see the layer change then you should play it on a computer or try and find a player that buffers the video (I haven't heard of one).

Thanks for the great play by play of your marathon viewing. I'm sure there will be many more once we all receive our discs.

Any word on the bonus disc?

I really want to know who made up the chapter names.

In Dreams Begin Responsibilities
Everyone Has Dreams
Making Dreams Alive
Asking Forgiveness
Write Her A Letter
Understanding Your Dreams

Here we go, the last episode. Then I am going to the gym, gonna practice guitar and to heck with all you people, I'm getting some sleep. :P
