EW.com: 25 Greatest Cult TV Shows Ever

"My So-Called Life" is #8 on EW's list of "25 Greatest Cult TV Shows Ever". Why It's Cult: Cancelled before its time (then frustratingly out of print on DVD for far too long), the show still feels like a personal letter of encouragement to anyone who's ever felt like they could never belong. —Whitne...

npr blog: My So-Called Life: High School as Purgatory

Marc Hirsh compared on npr.org some of his favorite fictional high schools: Cartoons And Noir Underbellies: A Taxonomy Of Television High Schools . Freaks And Geeks: High school as every worst nightmare you've ever had, ever. [..] Veronica Mars: High school as noir underbelly. [..] Parker Lewis Can'...

Article on TVSquad.com

Jason Hughes from TVSquad.com wrote an article about "My So-Called Life" and its history: Gone Too Soon: My So-Called Life . A long time ago, before The WB and UPN built programming models for teen audiences, there was a little show on ABC that nobody really knew what to do with. My So-Called Life t...

10 Things Angela Chase Could Have Done Since 1994

Jill Pantozzi from the "Heartless Doll" blog posted a wonderful article about MSCL and "Angela Chase": Like many others, MSCL had me at Crimson Glow. I couldn't wait to see what Rayanne Graff would do next or if Brian Krakow would ever be able to talk like a normal human being. But the show wasn't p...

15 years "My So-Called Life"

It sounds almost unbelievable, but fifteen years ago on this day, Aug 25 1994, ABC aired the first episode of "My So-Called Life." The show was canceled less than nine months later, but it's still a world-wide phenomenon. New generations of viewers have discovered the show in recent years, thanks to...

Re: What are Lifer's watching these days?

I just finished recently my " West Wing " marathon, it took my almost 15 months, but was really worth it. An amazing and well written show, especially in its early seasons, when Aaron Sorkin was the showrunner. Certainly one of the best dramas of its time. Too bad Sorkin couldn't recreate this succe...

Re: Is there anything else as good?

Personally, I currently recommend "Friday Night Lights" (NBC), which is co-produced/created by Jason Katims, a former writer for "My So-Called Life". On first sight it's a show about high-school football, but it's primarily a realistic portrayal of teenage life in small towns. Also, the British prod...

R.I.P. John Hughes

A sad reason to revisit this old topic: author/director John Hughes passed away today. He was 59 years old.

Re: ANGELA SMILED

$12???????????????? what? She/he probably meant $12 for the whole CD. The original posting is dated April 2002 ... from the digital stone age, when we had to buy entire CDs just to get one song :). It's amazing how times have changed since then... (BTW, in this case the entire CD is actuall...

Re: MSCL MINI CONVENTION - LOCATION VOTE

Whoa, that's an old topic :). No, unfortunately, we never went through with that "mini convention" idea. Maybe there were some small local meetups, I'm not sure. It's one of these things where you always tell yourself "we should do that one day", but somehow it never gets done because noone takes ch...

EW's 25 Biggest Emmy Snubs

It seems like EW.com comes up with a new "best of"-list almost every week, this time it's about the biggest Emmy snubs in history . Our beloved show ended up on #23: Okay, so it only lasted one season. And while ''the Academy'' didn't know it then, this critically acclaimed ratings bust has since be...

Re: Number Eight

I think I read somewhere on these forums that there was a mention on the pilot commentary that the number 8 on Devon Gummersall's jersey in the pilot was a reference to It's a Wonderful Life , though not sure from where in the film. So maybe it has to do with that? Actually, the "Wonderful Life" re...
