why doesn't rayanne smoke on the show?

I thought about too, and usually fanwanked a few reasons why Rayanne doesn't smoke:

1) She's always been portrayed as pretty athletic. She climbs ropes with ease, helps other girls in gym class, etc., etc. Maybe she doesn't want to endanger any of that.

2) Her mother works with x-rays, and has probably tried to quit smoking a few times. Maybe Amber's told Rayanne a few horror stories about all the dried-up lungs she's seen.

3) She just doesn't like the taste. It happens.

Rayanne also likes to be different, so maybe she chooses not to smoke just to be an anomaly among her crowd. She drinks not to fit in, but to escape reality, numb her pain, and drown her sorrows, none of which are effects of nicotine, so another possible reason why Rayanne doesn't smoke is that she wouldn't get anything out of it. She is also very sensual in the sense that she really enjoys food, and smoking dulls your sense of taste so maybe she'd rather taste her food as fully as possible than smoke. There are a lot of plausible reasons why Rayanne wouldn't smoke. I went to high school in the 90s and there were kids in that crowd who only smoked marijuana but never cigarettes. Others only drank. Others in that crowd didn't do either. As much as tv likes to use smoking as shorthand for evil/corrupt/bad guy, it isn't that simple in real life.

her mom spoked, so its possible that shes tried it. i mean if ur around ur parent and people who do it long enough sometimes u just try or give into it. so who knows. she seemed like the person who would do anything once, just for the thrill of it.
