SpeakSpeakFound this raving review of a TV movie on Showtime/Lifetime -- which is apparently airing tomorrow (Monday 5 September). It caught my eye because it compares the movie to "one of television's best series, My So-Called Life":

I've managed to get ahold of a copy of "Speak" and ... wow! I mean ... WOW! It's truly an amazing movie. If there were such a thing as an "Annual Spirit of 'My-So-Called Life' Award", this movie deserved it big time. I totally agree with everything Jonathan Storm wrote in his review above. Kristen Stewart, just 13 years old when the movie was shot, is a revelation. She could truly be the "next Claire Danes". Her performance is breathtaking.
There are lots of similarities between "Speak" and MSCL, even down to some lines of dialogue, but it's far more than just a copy of MSCL. It tells its own serious and touching, beautiful story, yet it manages to add a spark of humor. Some of the teacher characters seem a bit over-the-top and unrealistic, but maybe that's how the main character sees them. I highly recommend this movie to everyone who liked "My So-Called Life" (and I guess that's everyone here ). It's available on DVD on September 27, 2005. The book was really incredible - I read it last week. Not exactly how my first year of high school was, but I certainly know how it feels to lose all your friends (or at least, who you thought were your friends) in a short span of time. That is what I identified most with. I'll have to check out the movie in a couple of weeks.
Um, in my room, one seam is a little off and I stare at it constantly. It's, like, destroying me.
