WE ARE ONLY PAWNS IN THE BMG/MSCL DVD SAGA

Post by brubrodksy » Oct 5th 2002, 7:05 pm

I'm new at this forum; but have been an avid fan of MSCL since it was first shown. I waited a long time just to get a legitimate (as opposed to hard to watch bootleg copies) of all the episodes.
I think that letting people like me and most of you reading this see that the DVD set can be puchased at almost $50 less than what we previously paid ($115 vs. $67) is a sham. Since I ordered late; I won't be receiving a lunchbox, but will be getting the Bonus disc. I guess it comes down to the question...is the bonus disc worth $50..I doubt it.
We all should have received our MSCL DVD sets before a Preorder was announced at AMAZON. It's not AMazon's fault...BMG obviously gave Amazon the go ahead to announce the set being available to the general public. Amazon is probably taking a slight loss on charging $67 if the set will in fact retail at $89 and at the same time AMAZON will probably be increasing their customer base.
I will keep my order with ComicUniverse and wait out each day the set does not arrive. (I'd be very surprised if the set arrives before the Amazon set.) I think that those of us who do keep their order and don't cancel SHOULD be entitled to something extra. I'll leave that up to Ross and Co. FIFTY DOLLARS is a lot of money to most people especially those of us who may not have a steady job.

I meant to say "Another Universe" not "Comic Universe"
in above post.

Does everyone feel the same...THAT is that we should receive "Something" for paying $50 extra and having to wait PROBABLY until AMAZON customers start receiving their sets sometime in NOVEMBER?

ANY FEEDBACK ON THIS??

Heh... watch me get flamed now for saying something nice about AU. ^^;
And it would be so easy to since you are COMPLETELY WRONG :P :P :P

AU was in on this deal and approved it.

I was told, by BMG, that a certain deal had my seal of approval on it, but TRUST ME, it did not. Gord can vouch for me that I went down to BMG practically foaming at the mouth in the days before my wedding to put the kibosh on the deal. I even strained my relationship with BMG somewhat by writting to the Senior VP of my old division to try to create pressure from above to kill that deal. And I did use the words "kill the deal." But I feared that BMG would get tied up in the blame if they did not allow a brag window.

However, BMG told me that since Ross okayed it, they were powerless to stop the deal, since they already committed to Ventura. I constantly reminded Ross about this, but he seemed to not think the other deal was going to ever be completed. I even asked him if he thought he could compete against the likes of Amazon.com.

The ironic part of this whole deal? I brought Ventura to BMG in the first place. However, I assure you that my plan had a significant delay before sending to retail, as well as a minimum advertised price (which may have just been shot down in the courts, anyway). I brought Ventura to BMG, but I did not approve anything that BMG or AU or Ventura discussed without keeping me in the loop. Why did I bring Ventura into the deal? The rights to the show expire in less than a year, and if there was ever to be a chance at retail, it had to be investigated now. Regardless, BMG and Ventura are not doing anything that was not approved by Ross.

I do not blame BMG for any of this. They have truly been stand up fellows. The only professionals in the bunch. They have been very patient in dealing with AU. They would not have moved forward with other retailers without TACIT approval from AU. I don't understand why AU approved it. I suppose I will never know. All I know is that I am, again, getting emails from AU telling me that it is obvious that I don't want to work with them again.

Yeah, my bad. I should know better than to post things before I've read all the new stuff. Once I read the other thread, I came back and deleted what I said about AU/BMG.

You must have been responding as I was deleting, since you quoted me. O_o When I deleted it, your post wasn't there.

Sorry about that.

Now I'd like to go on record as calling AU STUPID. Heh.
