Favorite Movies???
Favorite Movies???I really enjoyed reading about the TV shows and music that you all like, so now I'm interested to know what everyone's favorite movies are. Personally, my all-time favorites are Willy Wonka, Joe Versus the Volcano, When Harry Met Sally (and I'm not even a Meg Ryan fan!), Ma Vie En Rose, Dream For an Insomniac, Annie Hall, Groundhog Day, Beautiful Girls, and this short film called Crush that I saw at the San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. I also like old romantic comedies like The Apartment and Roman Holiday, and anything starring Kate Winslet (especially Heavenly Creatures and Holy Smoke). Movies that I've seen in the last year that I really enjoyed: Memento, In the Bedroom, Ghost World, Amelie, and Lord of the Rings.
But enough about me. Let me know what your favorites are- I'm really curious!
Re: Favorite Movies???Chosephine, I really like this topic, but that's probably because I am a movie freak. There's so many to mention, and I know I'll forget a few really great ones, but here's some of the ones that I can watch over and over and over again:
~ Hackers (The music in this one is stellar) ~ Say Anything (and pretty much anything featuring John Cusack -- Better Off Dead, High Fidelity, America's Sweethearts, etc.) ~ Top Gun (the first video I ever owned and one I've played to death) ~ Pretty Woman (the second video I ever owned, so you know how many times I've probably seen this one!) ~ Sliding Doors (I love the idea of how your life can change from doing just one thing differently) ~ Titanic (I know some people got sick of it because it got so much play, but I just love it) ~ The Breakfast Club (I know this one word for word) ~ Pretty in Pink (another great '80s movie) ~ Jerry MaGuire (I love pretty much all of Cameron Crowe's work -- Almost Famous, Singles, etc.) ~ Bridget Jones's Diary (absolutely hilarious) ~ Swingers (a classic) ~ Bram Stoker's Dracula (and a number of other vampire flicks -- Interview with the Vampire, Pale Blood, The Forsaken, Blade, The Lost Boys, etc.) ~ The Crow (but only the first one) ~ Less Than Zero (It seems a bit eerie now looking back at the character that Robert Downey Jr. played in this movie) ~ The Usual Suspects (What a great story!) ~ The Red Violin (another one that draws you in) ~ The Matrix (I can't wait for the sequels) ~ Reality Bites (seems so true to life) ~ Shakespeare in Love (loved the twist on the Romeo and Juliet story) ~ William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet (It took me a while but this one truly grew on me) ~ Ever After (I love seeing the fairy tale come to life) ~ First Knight (I'm a sucker for medieval-type movies with a bit of modernism thrown in there) "When you drink from the cup of life, chug." ~ Citibank billboard
Re: Favorite Movies???Thanks for replying. I forgot about Say Anything and The Usual Suspects- those would be on my list too. And Reality Bites! How could I have forgotten about that? When I was in college, my roommates and I would rent it every weekend and we had the whole thing memorized.
Re: Favorite Movies???While I don't have Reality Bites memorized (yet), chosephine, I can still see that awesome "My Sharona" scene and also the part where Winona Ryder's character gets wrapped up in the psychic hotline. That is so classic! I think I'm going to have to break my tape out soon and watch that one again since it's been a while.

"There's something about Sunday night that makes you want to kill yourself" Re: Favorite Movies???well i have to start with this

Re: Favorite Movies???I absolutely loved Heat, saake. Despite its length, I never found it to drag at all. And the actors are superb in carrying out the story.
Adam, it looks like we have many movies in common. I, too, love Kevin Smith's movies although Chasing Amy is my favorite. What did you think of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back since it was the only KS movie that you didn't mention on your list? "When you drink from the cup of life, chug." ~ Citibank billboard
Re: Favorite Movies???Harold and Maude
Grosse Pointe Blank LA Story Rushmore When Harry Met Sally Magnolia The Muppet Movie Pee Wee's Big Adventure and many more. Re: Favorite Movies???well ive only seen jay and silent bob strike back like once so i'm not to sure on it as a long lasting movie it was funny but didn't seem like a classic movie like chasing amy or clerks. but funny
Re: Favorite Movies???Davidbootnail, I love John Cusack and enjoyed Grosse Pointe Blank but not as much as some of his other movies. I do love both GPB soundtracks, though. Do you have those?
As for Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, adam, I know what you mean since I've only seen that movie once in the theaters. This will probably sound silly, but I think part of the different feel had to do with the fact that Kevin Smith had such a budget and a chance to call in favors to round out his New Jersey series so it lost a little of that gritty feel. Re: Favorite Movies???Almost famous IS THE BEST!!
Pleasantville Mallrats Empire Records Being John Malkovitch And in no particular order But I'm a cheerleader Can't hardly wait American pie (1/2) Galaxy quest Cruel Intentions Election Bring it on High Fidelity It is quite interesting how so many films crop up on almost everyones lists....
Re: Favorite Movies???Being John Malkovich, now that is a quirky movie, richard, but one that I own and love. It was so bizarre how it was done, and I loved the office being on the half floor. What fun!
As for us having common tastes in movies, it makes sense since we all have an affinity for a great show like MSCL. "When you drink from the cup of life, chug." ~ Citibank billboard
Re: Favorite Movies???My top 4, in no particular order:
Stand By Me (my favorite movie when I was 6 and 15 years later, still my favorite movie) American Beauty (have never been so trans-fixed on the screen for any other movie; almost a religious experience) Magnolia (absolutely brilliant; best ending ever, had me thinking about it for months) This Is Spinal Tap (funniest movie ever made and dead-on in every way) Honorable mentions: Jerry Maguire Diner Jurassic Park The Breakfast Club Being John Malkovich Spaceballs The Shawshank Redemption Wag the Dog Boogie Nights The Blair Witch Project Rain Man Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure The Truman Show Living In Oblivion Dick Tracy The Fugitive Witness Big Schindler's List I'm sure I'm forgetting some, and I'm gonna real mad with myself when I remember what they are. Re: Favorite Movies???Boy, dTheater, first we had music in common and now movies. I love a number of the ones on your list, especially The Shawshank Redemption (what a thrilling unraveling of a story), Rain Man (I know a number of the sequences by heart), Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (just classic), Big (what a fun movie) and Schindler's List (so powerful).

Re: Favorite Movies???I managed to miss American Bueaty off my list, although it is amazing, sounds too much like almost famous, which is the best I suppose.
I have to say that I found the Truman show a very interesting idea, but while being very well shot and written, never really got anywhere. It managed to bring up a good many issues while wimping out of actually exploring or detailing them (if you see wat I mean) Ed TV did it all far better - In my humble opinion!!
