Los Angeles * Summer 2012

Let's do this.

Anybody think they could make it? Anybody have a preference, June, July, or August?

Re: Summer Travel

Emmie! I loved Savannah! I actually thought of you when we walked by some of the SCAD buildings (although I don't know that's where you went). We ended up kayaking off of Tybee with some filmmakers who'd gone to school in Savannah but now live in Austin. We didn't have nearly enough time in the city...

Re: Canceled TV Show Love Song

Didn't want to start a whole new thread for this, and since it's on the topic of beloved but canceled shows (and because I always love watching this video...) MSCL gets a mention on hellogiggles.com http://hellogiggles.com/item-of-the-day-86 I love that the song mentions so many of my shows -- DEADW...

Re: Discussion for Episode 4: Father Figures

Hm. I still contend that a person finding out that his or her father had even been considering, and making plans for, an affair is enough to rock that person's world. It could still throw into question if he had ever done it before, or if he would ever go through with it in the future.

Re: Could Delia actually forgive Brian?

I think she could, but I don't really think she'd want to. I agree. Delia is new to the school. She hardly knows Brian and has a crush on him based on the little she does know and what she's observed. Brian shattered that. It's gone. Brian can keep going back to Angela, and Angela can keep going ba...

Re: Discussion for Episode 4: Father Figures

Whoa. Father Figures. Like Rayanne, I grew up with an absentee father ... which is why there were times during this episode where I wanted to slap Angela for whining about how her daddy's having an affair that she isn't even sure of. Rayanne's end speech which brings Angela back to Earth literally ...

Re: Discussion for episode 18: Weekend

And who doesn't love Patty Chase drunk? And Cheryl Fleck is entertaining. My favorites in this episode are: Danielle doing makeup with Rickie and Angela, Angela's exploration of justice, Danielle and Rayanne's exchange, Angela's reaction to see Daniele and Rayanne together, and Danielle asking about...

Re: what other characters would you have wanted to narrate?

Angela is probably one of my least favorite characters in the series, to be honest. In the episode "On the Wagon," she really seems to ignore or else be completely oblivious to how Rayanne is feeling because she's so focused on Jordan. ... Angela is also a bad friend to Rickie when she goes after C...

Re: what other characters would you have wanted to narrate?

Jordan's attitude that sex is "expected" and his notion that it's all right to pressure someone into sex are unacceptable. You're making really good points, just have to keep the record straight, Jordan said accepted , not expected . He also needs to find his own voice instead of going along with w...

Re: The Importance of Having a Jordan

Brian and Jordan could also learn from Angela. I don't think that either one of them is right for her, though--at least not as they are now. I don't know that she is right for them, either. Those are totally good points. While in my mind J & A do stay together, at least for a bit, I definitely don'...

Re: The Importance of Having a Jordan

Interesting discussion. So far no one’s allowed for the idea that a person does not need a love interest to grow, and change, and explore. This can happen on one’s own, or with friends -- I don’t know that Angela needed Jordan for that (she was on that path already without him). More than that, I th...

Re:

In recent years I've seriously considered dressing up as a MSCL character but unfortunately the characters aren't that recognizable and it's not much fun when you have to tell everyone what you are dressed up as (just ask Sharon). Not according to Christian Lander of Stuff White People Like :mrgree...

Re:

I like the comparisons of Tino to a Ferris Bueller / Dallas Winston type character; a mixture of the two sounds kind of right on (maybe with some Two-Bit Matthews thrown in). I definitely think Tino has got to be much more lively and extroverted than Jordan -- with a quick sense of humor, but that'...
