Question for fnordboy, Mek, and other R2 buyers - are there any appreciable differences in DVDs that are released both R1 and R2? For example Buffy S1-3, are any of the special features different?

P.S. B2:EB is fullscreen in R2 as well, so I say just wait for the R1 release which will be less expensive and hopefully higher quality.
Candygirl,

Congrats on your purchase. I will have Mek respond to your post tommorrow.

Best,

FYI - the R1 release of Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo is NOT widescreen, and no word on the B-Boy Battle Score Sheet!

The release date is April 15 - celebrate tax day with Ozone and Turbo!

FYI for fnordboy (and all other Breakin' fans) - today is the R1 release date for the movie Breakin' but it looks like it's fullscreen (just like the B2:EB R1 release and the R2 releases).

But will the R1 releases have the b-boy battle score sheets?

From my understanding the R1 is exactly like the R2...quality wise and such. Don't know about the B-Boy Battle sheet though :? , I want these on DVD, but I am going to resist.

On the other hand I did pick up some gems today :) Got Bright Lights, Big City, Thrashin', Rocky and Bullwinkle season 1, Casablanca and Radiohead's 7 Television Commercials.

What boggles my mind is that Thrashin' comes with all these extras like commentary and 2 featurettes, yet Bright Lights, Big City comes with nothing. Which upsets me... you can never have enough Phoebe Cates :( damnit...just remembered I forgot to pick up I Love You to Death (yummy Phoebe Cates)

hmm guess this should be moved to Movies or something...

I did think about buying Breakin' and Breakin' 2 just to have them on R1, but I didn't think it was worth it.

On the plus side, I bought Casablanca tonight and tomorrow I'm going to Best Buy for the buy one, get one free sale - The Sure Thing and Valley Girl!

:D

I REALLY want The Sure Thing, but Valley Girl - eh, I could take it or leave it. Since it's buy one, get one free I'll take it.

(I am going to see what my other options for the free movie are at Best Buy because young Nick Cage is kind of meh for me)

Nick's your buddy!

Woohoo!

More DVDs! Valley Girl is an okay way to pass, what, two hours.

Score on Casablanca though.

Damn, I just looked at that Best Buy ad more closely and realized that it says if you buy The Sure Thing AND Valley Girl ($14.99 each) then you get one of the $9.99 80s DVDs (Bright Lights, Big City, The Flamingo Kid, Hot Dog, Johnny Be Good, The Last American Virgin, Thrashin', or Breakin'. I was willing to go with Valley Girl for free, but I'm not paying $15 for it just to get a $10 movie for free.

I am so excited about the Casablanca extras! My boyfriend is eagerly anticipating Carrotblanca, the Looney Tunes take on the movie.

I meant to post this earlier in the week, but my sister was visiting and I totally forgot. Circuit City has a bunch of MGM DVDs on sale - buy one for $9.99 and get another one free. The sale titles include 80s movies like Breakin' and Breakin' 2 (woo hoo!), The Flamingo Kid, Roadhouse, The Last American Virgin, When Harry Met Sally, and Bright Lights, Big City as well as newer movies like Ronin, Kingpin, and Showgirls (oh yes). Much better deal than Best Buy's lame sale.

For anyone who is thinking about buying The Sure Thing, there are a bunch of cool featurettes (don't bother watching the one called "Reading The Sure Thing" because it is literally the writer reading the original treatment), and there is a special feature that allows you to view trivia about the movie while you watch (kind of like Pop Up Video, but without the bubbling noise). Unfortunately, I didn't know about the trivia feature until I finished watching the movie, so I guess I'll HAVE to watch it again!

Candygirl thanks as always for the info.
