Best cover song EVER
Best cover song EVERAnother music topic (hey, movies and music - the backbone of pop culture!) - what is your all time favorite cover song?
This topic was inspired by hearing "I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love with You" (originally by Tom Waits) covered by Hootie and the Blowfish this morning en route to work.
Hmmm...tough question.
I think I may have to go with an obscure choice from my cd collection. I am a huuuuuuge fan of Prince. (aka The Purple One, or The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, or (insert androgynous symbol here), now known again as Prince). On his "Emancipation" album, he does a cover of Joan Osbourne's One of Us. No offense to Joan Osbourne, but his version blows hers out of the water!!! It is amazing. I suggest that if you can find this online, give it a listen. It's a killer!!! "You're sooo beautiful, it HURTS to look at you."
I can do you one more obscure in this six degrees of Prince...
Steve Poltz, who co-wrote Jewel's "You Were Meant for Me" and whose "Everything About You" was included on the Notting Hill soundtrack, does a bitchin' cover of "Little Red Corvette." He also does a great cover of "Summer Loving" from Grease. Steve Poltz, not Prince - although I would love to see Prince do that too!
Re: Best cover song EVERBLASPHEMY! There is no one who can do Tom Waits better than Tom Waits. Hmm i have to think of a few good covers, i will get back to you.
Here are a few highlights that i can recall, im sure i will add more to the list.
:oops:oh snap. i just lost my old school street cred. you're right, i pulled out the dynamite hack mp3 i have and it is in fact that whole song for some reason i was remembering it that they pulled from a shitload of rap cuts, but you're right. Commence with the public humiliation. (btw - check out Kid606's cover of "Straight Outta Compton") <whisper>
i'm going to jump in here quietly... cowboy junkies - sweet jane rem - femme fatale rem - pale blue eyes rem - here she goes again joy division - sister ray tori amos - new age these are all covers of the velvet underground. </whisper>
