Chapter 11: I Do

Scene: Jordan's room. Angela and Jordan are working on their roles for the play. Jordan is struggling, but trying hard. The radio is on softly in the background. Neither one of them is really paying attention to it. They decide to take a break. Jordan goes downstairs to get something to drink while Angela waits in his room. She realizes it is a nice room, and surprisingly clean. She fingers some of the knick knacks on his shelf, a few guitar picks, some movie ticket stubs, and then she looks down at a small paper waste basket. It's filled with crumpled up pieces of notebook paper, with Jordan's familiar scrawl written, erased, scratched out and re written on all of the visible pieces. They all begin "Angela," she bends down and picks up on of the pieces on top, gently unfolding it and smoothing the wrinkles. She reads
Angela,
I'm sorry about what happened with Brain. I know what I did was wrong, it's just, I can't say things good like he can. I thought what was important was that I meant every word of it. I mean, I didn't worry about letting Brain write it because I missed you so much and I wanted you to know how I felt so bad. That you, you're like,... air . Like, now that I'm without you, it's a little harder to breathe or something. I know that that sounds stupid. That's why I never tried to write you a letter of my own. But I wish that I could like... take it all back. Cuz now it feels like I can't breathe at all. I miss stuff, like how your hand fits like, just right in mine, and.. nevermind. This letter is too stupid...
Suddenly Jordan reenters the room carrying two cokes. She drops the paper, which he doesn't see and looks up at him guiltily as if she has seen something she shouldn't have.
Jordan: I got two cokes. I hope that's okay, it's like,... all there was in the fridge or whatever.
Angela:(obviously moved by the letter, though Jordan is oblivious to this) Walks up to Jordan and kisses him in a lip lock for a long time. Both of them close their eyes and stay that way until Angela breaks away. Jordan opens his eyes and looks at her curiously. Then he reaches out and places both of his hands on either side of her face. He leans in and closes his eyes and begins to gently kiss her. She closes her eyes and kisses him back, running her hands through his soft hair. In the background, "I Do (Cherish You)" comes on by 98 Degrees. The music is slightly louder now, and Angela and Jordan continue to kiss.

As the song plays, Jordan gently breaks away from the kiss. He lays his head tenderly on Angela's shoulder, and holding her very closely, they begin to sway gently to the music. It is just the two of them, slow dancing together in Jordan's room. As the song fades away, Jordan lifts his head and looks at Angela's face.
Angela: (Smiles) What? What is it?
Jordan:(Looks at his shoes) Nothin', really.... just...I do.
