i thought rickie was adorable too! he's such a good friend! i dont like watching the part in the pilot episode when rayanne wants to go somewhere with those 2 guys and she says its ok to leave rickie alone :( and he says its ok like hes used to being ditched by rayanne

but i must say, i love it when angela says she isn't going to leave rickie there by himself!

rickie also shows his loyalty everytime rayanne started drinking--he'd get really worried and i think everyone needs a friend like that around... also in "on the wagon" when shes singing and he invites like the whole school because he doesn't want her to have no audience and then he tells brian how to applaud and stuff! hah! he's great!

Of course I love Rickie, but I've always had a problem with him leaving the girls when things get hectic at Let's Bolt. I also have a problem with Rickie telling Angela about the letter. I mean, yeah, she should probably know the "truth" about the letter, but I don't like the way he tells her, especially because he acts like he thinks she already knows when I don't think he really believes that: "And she thinks he wrote it? ... Brian, you have to tell her." I get where he's coming from on both of these issues, but ...

Its never really bothered me that Rickie left the girl on Let's Bolt..i mean it's not like they were by themselves now..the cops came and so he knew they were going to be okay...I think that Rickie left because he was having problems at home adn he knew that if he was taken home by the cops his uncle would probably get mad and take his anger out on him--thats just my opinion tho because i really don't know and i can see where you're coming from...

i also think that rickie told angela about the letter because he knew that if she kept thinking that jordan wrote it she'd get hurt in the long run...maybe she'd be happy for now but in the end she'd find out and be hurt............its an honest mistake for rickie to think that angela had already known the fact that brian had wrote the letter! i dont think rickie was intentionally trying to hurt angela, that just isn't like him!

It bothers me a bit the way he just leaves them when the cops show up but I don't think it would be worth the beating he'd be risking. I don't see what his presence would do to make the situation better. If he had stayed the cop who drives them home might not have had the same conversation with Angela and might have insisted on going to her door.
As for the way Rickie tells Angela about the letter, I think it's just what Rickie believes will be easiest for her. Pretend like she already knows and it's no big deal. It does just make it worse though because it comes off as though you'd have to be a fool to believe Jordan had really written it.
I do however find his "because it's true" confrimation that Rayanne had sex with Jordan too casual and insensitive. He says it while continuing to paint the oak tree and he's definitley paying more attention to the tree than to Angela. Maybe he's just trying to give her a moment to react without being watched. But still he seems very cold. Overall though I think he's a great character, a bit dramatic but a good friend.

But it is NOT an honest mistake. In a scene before Rickie lets Angela know that Jordan wrote the letter, Brian confesses to Rickie:
Rickie : Brian? Did you do something, or something? Brian, what did you do?
Brian : I wrote this letter...to her.
Rickie : Oh my God, and she thinks he wrote it? Brian, you have to tell her.
Rickie knows that Angela thinks Jordan wrote the letter. There is no reason for Rickie to think that Angela is aware that Brian is the one who really wrote the letter.

Rickie did the right thing in telling her the truth, but he knew that Angela still thought Jordan, not Brian, wrote that letter.

I disagree. I don't think how he told her was casual at all. I don't think he could look at her, and so he was looking at the tree. And he said it softly, to perhaps soften the blow of the words. He knew what it would do to her, and he knew that she came to him and wanted to know the truth and knew that he would tell her.

I agree with Megs. I know for myself, I've always had a difficult time of telling someone something bad and looking them in the face. even if it's not your fault, it's kind of awkward. and maybe he was trying to be sensitive by not staring at her.

I like Ricky too

Post by Angela Chase DVD » Aug 28th 2004, 9:29 pm

I have always liked Ricky too. I was quite disappointed when that girl with the curly hair had a crush on him, and he was actually considering dating her, because he felt it could be his once chance, to maybe be normal, and not be gay anymore.

But then he never actually dated her!! TOO BAD!

It would have been interesting to see if and how the writers would have dealt with Rickie's sexuality in the second season. Would they have pursued a gay relationship subplot? We take for granted the openness and gay-friendliness of today's TV shows. If I recall the times correctly, such themes were very rare ten years ago.

Patty: If Rayanne's not seeing you, and we're not seeing you, who is seeing you?
Graham: And how much of you?
Angela: Dad!
Graham: Oh, I'm sorry! I asked a question about your life, didn't I? Woah, what came over me?

Well yes, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened with Ricky had there been a second season.

I think the best thing would be to see if he would actually end up dating a girl!! Because that would be alot more dramatic and interesting and unexpected!!

Imagine if Ricky and Angela started dating. That would be COOL!

That would be a huge step backwards for Rickie though. He has finally admitted out loud that he is gay, so dating a girl would be climbing back into the closet of denial. It would probably be even worse for him to try to date someone who is already a close friend, like Angela. Besides, Angela knows that Rickie is gay, so it's extremely doubtful that she would date him. Girls like a challenge, not something that would require a miracle. She loves Rickie as he is, so she would have no motivation to try to ungay him, and as a real friend, she wouldn't want to change something that is such a huge part of who he is.

I would have liked to see Rickie dating a nice guy, but he doesn't strike me as a very sexual person. He'd probably be more into the hand-holding and intimate conversations, that sort of thing. The only exception that comes to mind was his provocative dance with Delia, but even that was more for fun and the thrill of being in "the zone" than... well, horniness.

I would have loved to see Rikki find a great guy for him to be with. I always thought the guy with the shoes...the new guys...his name escapes me right now...would be the one he could possibly hook up with. I agree with Nostradamus. He does`nt seem like a sexual person at all but maybe thats because he`s never had a romantic relationship.
