Collected Wisdom & Trivia

Post by Nostradamus » Aug 11th 2004, 10:19 pm

There is more knowledge in the world than any one person could ever possibly learn, but that doesn't stop us from trying. This thread is a place to share the unique lore, tips, tricks, facts, fallacies, theories, etc. you may have obtained over the years, but which do not really warrant distinct topics on the board.

So I'll start, with no particular theme in mind...

Chemical plant workers are issued special flashlights that do not ignite volatile gasses.

Lewis and Clark were not the first Europeans to reach the northern Pacific coast of North America.

Colors are best perceived at the center of the human field of vision, while night vision is best at the periphery.

Ballistic missile submarines are called 'boomers'.

Excepting hermits and quasi-permanent research posts, Easter Island is home to the world's most isolated human settlements.

Anyway, you get the idea; carry on...

I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.

D'oh! I meant to say Lewis & Clark were not the first Europeans to reach the northern Pacific coast by land. Obviously there many sea expeditions before them, but it is not as well known that they were beaten on the over-land route as well. I'll have to look up who got there first, I think they were French or English.
