Age of Angela and Danielle

Post by Guest » Apr 2nd 2004, 12:59 pm

I was just looking at imdb.com and noticed that Claire Danes was born in April 1979 and Lisa Wilhoit was born in July 1981, which means there was only a difference of two years between them. But weren't they supposed to be something like five or six years apart in MSCL?

Yes,I think they are five years apart in the series. But you know, that happens all the time.Jared Leto was suppose to be 17 or 18, but he was 20 or 21 so whatever

Four years, actually. Danielle was 11 and Angela was 15.

And yea, it seemed only Claire was the only one who was the exact age of her character. Everyone else was older then their character, except Tom Irwin who was actually in his late-30s when he did the show (not in his early 40s like Graham).

Angela is 15 years old at the start of the series. But we don't know her actual date of birth. Jordan, who, according to Angela, was left back twice, is probably 17 or 18 years old.

I started the first grade at age 5. I graduated high school at age 17. However, some of my classmates started school at age 6. So, they graduated at age 18.

Some children go to kindergarten at 5 or 6 years old. Therefore, they would be 18 or 19 years old upon graduation from high school, depending on where their birthdays fall on the calendar. Of course, this is assuming that they don't fail any grades.

My guess is that Jordan is 17 years old at the start of the series. I don't think he would be likely to stay in school if he didn't have to be there. In most states, a child is an adult at 18 years of age. At age 18, they don't have to go to school anymore. In Florida, when I was going to school, a child could drop out of school at age 16. I believe that the dropout age here is now 18 years old.

In terms of development, there is a large gulf between 15 and 17 years of age. No doubt, Jordan's age and acquired wisdom in the ways of the world attract Angela almost as much Jordan's good looks.

In the pilot, Angela says that Jordan has been "left back...twice." I took this to mean that he was still a sophomore but should have been a senior, partly because we see in several episodes (Pilot, the Zit, Father Figures, Strangers in the House, Why Jordan Can't Read, etc.) that Jordan is in Angela's English class.

Jordan also has PE the same period as Angela, Sharon, and Rayanne, which may or may not mean anything, but at my high school PE was required for freshmen and sophomores so I again assumed that Jordan was a sophomore.

I always assumed too that Jordan was a 17-year-old sophomore, but now working at a high school I realize there are many other possibilities... What happens most often is that a student does indeed progress to the next grade but then retakes any classes he/she might have failed. So, a student might be a sophomore but also be taking freshman English. I don't actually think this is the case with Jordan, but then we do not know enough about his schedule to be sure.

Also, after multiple V. Mars reiterations, and finally a Deadwood movie, still wishing for some continuation of The Riches !

I graduated at 19 because I started Kindergarden late. In my HS, if you fail one class but pass the others, you are progressed to the next grade but you have to follow through with one of three options. You eihtier make the class up your Senior Year, In Night School or In Summer School. Every class I took in HS has students from all grades taking the class for the first, second and sometimes the third time.

PE was an elective at my high school. Students were only required to take it once, but they could take it again. We didn't have many electives due to budget constraints. So, many Seniors took PE to fill out their schedules. The coaches gave Seniors a lot of slack. They could basically hang out and do nothing and get at least a B. They got an A if they did anything.

PE was required for all four years of high school. If you don't pass all four years, you don't graduate. I knew people who didn't graduate because they failed PE.

I think they skipped class a lot. They weren't that smart.

Reminds me of this conversation:

"Why did you think shop would be an easy A?"

"Have you seen the guys who take shop?"

"I take shop."
