I Love the 80's/I Love the 90's on VH-1

MSCL may be gone from the tv screen, but there are lots of good (and bad) new productions airing each week. Talk with other MSCL fans about your favorite shows or the shows you hate. Of course you can also discuss TV show DVD releases here.

I Love the 80's/I Love the 90's on VH-1

Post by ducksqueak » Jul 2nd 2003, 10:34 am

Has anyone caught this show on VH1? It's on almost every day. I watch it everytime I pass by it on tv no matter how many times I've seen it.

It is a 10 hour documentary of the 80's. Each year gets its own hour. The show features celebrities who comments on movies, music, fashion, and all that is pop culture. VH1 has a big marathon planned for 4th of July weekend so check it out if you haven't yet.

I love these! I think that they are hilarious!

I just saw 1983 this past weekend, and they were talking about a gay He-Man. I was cracking up.

IIRC VH-1 originally ran this series late last year (I remember that I missed the last one because I had to fly somewhere that night), then they reran the entire series during their "Best of VH-1" Week. Here's the sad part - even though I have seen every hour of this, if I happen to catch it while I'm channel surfing, I'll stop and watch the rest of the hour! Ian Michael Black is the best.

Yeah, he cracks me up. I love him. And the other guy, I forget his name. I think he's from Six Feet Under?

I have seen 1984 like 12 times.

Hal Sparks from Queer as Folk? I don't remember there being anyone from Six Feet Under on it....oh, maybe the lab tech guy, I forget his name too. He might have been on Remember the 80's.

I'm just VERY glad they never mentioned Goat Boy, who hosted "Remember the 80's" on Saturday Night Live sketches. Horrible Horrible character...

Yes. Him. Sorry, I had my shows mixed up. Him and that guy from Ed (mentioned by candygirl) always have me laughing.

My favorite quote is when the one is talking about George Michael being gay: "Surely, you jest."

Freddy Rodriguez has been on I Love the 80s, but he wasn't featured as much as our guy IMB! I'm glad they have the funny guys a lot of screen time. Gay He-Man!

He-Man isn't gay! He's just confused, like the neighbors dog.

That whole segment cracked me up with the footage they used! You have got to admit that one shot with him and the monster, uh, struggling against each other looked rather... gay.

I stop everytime I pass an "I Love the 80s" show even if A) I've already seen it or B) it's "I Love 1981" since I was 1 year old then. Still, those two guys annoy me very much.

Almost as annoying as Goat Boy was.

I also watch these every time I happen to surf by VH1 and notice they are on. Since I graduated high-school in 1985  this is all very relavent to me. I also like IMB from Ed, although I thought he was better on 'The State'. I liked GoatBoy. Has it been that long since the 80's?????

It starts this week, right? Tonight, I thought.

I don't think that I will be able to relate to the 70s like I could to the 80s, but it will still be fun to watch.

Megs, did you or anyone else watch I Love the 80s Strikes Back last week? I completely forgot that it started on Monday, but you know how VH-1 likes to rerun their stuff over and over and over! I still haven't seen the 1980 one, but I caught parts of the rest of them. My one quibble - why did they feature the Choose Your Own Adventure books in the 1989 segment?! I remember they were all the rage in elementary school (which was well before 1989!). The other thing I (still) dislike is when they have people like Mandy Moore or Beyonce commenting on the older stuff - they were barely born but they are somehow qualified to tell us how they feel about stuff that happened when they were toddlers?
