Earth 2 : Parallel with MSCL - get it NOW

MSCL may be gone from the tv screen, but there are lots of good (and bad) new productions airing each week. Talk with other MSCL fans about your favorite shows or the shows you hate. Of course you can also discuss TV show DVD releases here.

Earth 2 : Parallel with MSCL - get it NOW

Post by MartinPierre » May 20th 2003, 7:51 am

A few years ago a new innovative show came out. It was totally different than anything else before.

Notably, it had a lot of character development, and the story was very well written.

Unfortunatly, it didn't have much ratings, so it was cancelled after 1 season but fans tried to keep it on air.

Is it MSCL ??? No, it's Earth 2, a SCI-FI series.

Unlike MSCL however, the fan base was MUCH smaller and there wasn't enough people to release it on DVD.

Plus, it almost didn't get any fans, except maybe me.

Anyway, you can get it NOW, because someone ( not me, I am taking it at the same time ) is posting it on the alt.binaries.multimedia.scifi newsgroup right NOW.

Episode 1 thru 9 are there already, the others will be posted shortly. Episode 1 was posted 6.7 days ago, and files only stay 30 days so act quickly...

Most of you probably don't know how to take files from Newsgroups, so here is a little primer :

Go to :

http://www.easynews.com

Pay 9.95$ US with your credit card, don't worry, Ross doesn't own the company. It will give you 6 GB of bandwidth or 1 month, whichever comes first... Probably the 6GB ;-)

Go to newsgroup :

alt.binaries.multimedia.scifi

And search for earth2 with 500 results.

You can click on each file to download them, or zip them up in one of 6 queues at the bottom ( 2 episodes at a time - around 56 files, a total of arond 700MB).

To zip, no need to click on all of the files. Check the first, check the last and click "Range". Those in between will be zipped.

Download DAP ( download accelerator ) at : http://www.speedbit.com/

And download the 700 MB files. It will take a while, probably a few days on Dialup !!! I recommand cable modems or ADSL.

Once on your disk, unzip them. They are rar files ( download winrar to un rar ) and you will get the actual file.

I haven't downloaded the first episode yet, so I don't know the format but I will keep you posted.

There are 22 episodes, so it will bust the 6GB limit to download all.

But for 20$ you get the whole serie, and more bandwidth for downloading tons of MP3s or other shows...

I recommand Jeremiah from the creator of Babylon 5. Found ALL the episodes on it in the last 2 months. Severals are still there.

Plot Summary:

In 2192, human beings have left Earth, for the most part, to live on giant
orbiting space stations. Earth has been environmentally devastated, and the only
people left are miners and other poor laborers. A rich station designer, Devon
Adair, whose only son,Ulysses, has been stricken with a fatal illness called The
Syndrome, puts together an expedition to found a colony on an earth-like planet,
called G889, twenty-two light years from Earth. The expedition backfires when the
Advance team crash-lands on the planet on the opposite side of the continent from
their destination. They discover that the planet that they thought was uninhabited,
is in fact home to a variety of species, as well as some cast-off Humans from the
Stations. The colonists journey westward to their destination, New Pacifica,
encountering problems along the way.

I think I still have the two hour premiere on vhs somewhere. This makes me want to go back and watch it. I watched most of the episodes when it was on, very good show, too bad it was cancelled. It had the "Noxima Girl" in it too, nothing wrong with that. I always liked Earth 2 and DS9 better than Babylon 5, it just didn't grab me, but hey, that's just me.

A little like Babylon 5, this serie contains an ARC.

As such, certain episodes are standalone, but most aren't.

A lot of things are not logical, but this was only the first season, so I cannot say for now...

It does contain one of the strongest scenes I've seen on SCI-FI television prior to Babylon 5. Which is a lot to say...

################### MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD ############

You have been warned...

One of the characters commits treason on the group, and is judged.

It is winter, and food is scarse : the group doesn't even know if they will survive at all...

Since they basically live in tents and are on the move, they drug the character to cause her to sleep.

When she wakes up, she is still in her tent, but the group has moved away.

She is left ALONE, in the middle of a tundra, in Winter, with only a few days of food, on an desolated planet.

The episode ends on her realizing this, and zooms out of her showing the TREMEDOUS distance made by the group

WoW, I cant beleive someone on the forum actually watched this show too. I used to watch it all the time with my mom. I have every episode taped since they ran it on the sci/fi Channel. Its really great to see another person who watched and loved the show! I really liked Jessica steen also (Julia). And I just loved the episodes with Gull (Tim Curray).

All the aliens were so real too. The terrians, Grendlers, and the Koba's!

I love Earth2! Pity Sci-Fi butchered it so badly. :(
