Super Bowl Shuffle

Post by Natasha (candygirl) » Jan 26th 2003, 7:33 pm

Was anyone glued to the tv today? My boyfriend is watching as we speak, but for reasons beyond our comprehension, we have to attend a family dinner for his grandmother's birthday tonight so we will be leaving right around half time.

My friend who lives in San Diego said the Gaslamp has been insane with celebrities all week - football players sitting at outdoor cafes, actors and actresses at the mall, etc. Funny to think a place as laid back as San Diego is now packed with celebrities (and the Raider Nation!).

Any hard core Tampa Bay or Oakland fans? Favorite commercials that aired? Thoughts on the pre-game or halftime entertainment?

Oh it's Superbowl Sunday? ;)

I hate football, dont like/watch many sports actually. Though I am a big tennis fan. Australian Open was on this last two weeks. Nobody good won. Everyone I like either wasn't playing or got knocked out early on. Such is life with the <grimace> Williams sisters</grimace>, damn them to hell.

Anyways back to football. I like commercials but can't justify watching the 'bowl just to see a few commercials.

I can't say I'm a hardcore football fan, but I like it well enough. I've been going between channels and catching some of the Superbowl. I don't really care who wins though. The only team I really like is the PACKERS!!! And I found out over winter break that I'm going to my first game at Lambeau Field next season!!! And I'm bringing a guy I really like!!!
:D :D :D
(I'm from Wisconsin, if you hadn't guessed.)
Okay, hardly any of that had anything to do with the Superbowl.
Um, in my room, one seam is a little off and I stare at it constantly. It's, like, destroying me.

I thought the anti drug commercials were more powerful and meaningful this year. The drug money for terror ads were a little sensationalistic, and could easily be written off (even though I have no doubt it is partially true.)

But the ad with the woman looking at the pregnancy test, and then her husband comes over, and you think it is just a home pregnancy commercial, then the subtitle reads, "Youngest grandparents on the block." and the woman steps back and you see their teenage daughter sitting there. "Marijuana impairs your reasoning."

It suprised me.

Random Thoughts:
The Hulk preview looked pretty good. Daredevil is going to suck, and possibly T3 (I doubt Claire can save it...) Matrix preview was pretty good. Ozzie is always amusing. Could they have shown off more of Jennifer Garners body? It was sad to see Jim Henson's greatest song hoc a website.

I honestly thought it was kind of cool when they used that song for the new iMacs, but then again I really love that song and they did use Kermit for the iMac commercials.

I didn't appreciate that anti-marijuana pregnancy commercial. Not at all. I understand that they are trying to hit home with teenagers, but I think that they're missing the mark. But I don't want to get into an anti/pro-marijuana debate, so I'll leave it at that.

I can't wait for the Matrix sequels! Those previews rocked!

The Hulk scares the living bejesus out of me, so unless my husband drags me kicking and screaming, I will not go see that. I used to have nightmares about that beast when I was little.

We will go see T3. I loved T2, and my husband is a huge Arnold fan. I am not sure how I feel about the female Terminator. The preview was disappointing, b/c they showed none of Ms. Danes.

I was surprised that there weren't a lot of boobie-centric beer commercials.

I don't care much about sports but I mainly didn't watch the game last night b/c I can't get ABC on my TV. It's on the UHF side where I live. I have only watched 2 SBowls in the last 20 years. Well, actually I watched the end of the 2000 SBowl when the Rams won and last year I watched the Pat's spank the heavily favored and over-confident Rams. What an embarassment. On another topic, is Jennifer Garner gonna be the sidekick in DareDevil?

I didn't see it myself, but my friend tells me that I predicted the commercial spoofing Castaway. When I saw the movie I remember thinking "How do you know that last package doesn't have a waterproof satellite transponder, or a first aid kit, or survival rations?!"

Favorite commercial: Matrix (...wow)
Second Place: Hulk.
Third: The one where the football player kept tackling people in the office.
Honorable Mention: Zebras doing the instant replay (Bud).

I heard that there was football somewhere in there, but I wan't paying attention. :D

I live in Tampa. The whole town has gone nuts. Fortunately, no riots have broken out, which makes Tampa an exception to the rule that big games must be celebrated with a riot. I called the outcomes of all 3 Tampa Bay Bucs playoff games. 49ers -- blowout win by Tampa. Eagles -- 2 touchdown win. Super Bowl -- I predicted 35-17, Bucs over Raiders. Alas, the only gambling I do usually is the lotto. However, I did bet my boss lunch for the Eagles game. I'm looking forward to a nice steak and potatoes meal come Thursday. :D
