New forum version

Post by Sascha » Jan 21st 2003, 11:44 am

I upgraded the forum to the latest stable release (2.0.4), but this is a tricky process because we use a special modified version of this software. If you notice any strange behaviour, just drop me an email or post here.

A lot of session/cookies/login problems should be solved now with this new version and it's little bit quicker.

Well I was playing Craps in vegas this weekend and lost bad, Do you think that the upgrade could have had anything to do with it?

Side Note:

If anyone wants to learn Craps I'll gladly teach you, its really simple, just roll the dice and give me a hundred dollars... Lesson Over!

Actually, I think, yes. Upgrades on MSCL.com always cause a severe rupture in the time-space continuum because it's such a rare event. As a result, ripples of paradox spread out across the sea of causality and everyone associated in some way with the MSCL.com project has bad luck for at least 635.41 galvanian time units, which equals roughly 48 earth hours. (Also known as the "Why didn't I stay in bed today" (WDISIBeT) - phase).

I'm right now in the middle of this so-called WDISIBeT phase, proven by the facts that
a) my car didn't work this morning
b) when I got it to start, I was too late and got no free parking space
c) it started raining cats and dogs right when I got out of my car. Of course, my umbrella was safe and dry in my office where I left it the evening before.
d) I forgot several important things at home
e) I have to work late because there is a meeting suddenly scheduled for late afternoon
f) I have no stamps left, but have to mail a letter
g) I can't buy any stamps, because I have to work late (see e) )
h) Our local network printer keeps bugging me with "error H36". Oh, I love such detailed error messages and no manual to find...
i) My "Gilmore Girls" soundtrack which I ordered three weeks ago at amazon.ca still isn't here...

q.e.d. ;-)

There seems to be a problem with the way AOL rotates their IP addresses and the new session (cookie) management in this forum revision. If you get an "invalid session" error, try to reload the page you wanted to access. I'll try to find a fix.

I like the new "Who Is Online" link. (Or was I too dense to realize it was there all along? )

Are the new OT forums a result of the upgrade, or just something you've been planning for a while?

The "Who Is Online" feature has been there since before the upgrade. I only knew about it because another forum I visit had the same feature. Of course, I didn't know about it until someone told me about it

I thought about it for a while and was planning to think about it even longer ;-), but when I was playing around in the admin section to implement the new ranks, I decided to add the new forums as well...

Just a quick note: I added a few more Emoticons (aka Smileys) - most of them are quite silly, but I wanted to try the smileys admin interface :)

Anyway, you can access the additional smileys by clicking on "View more Emoticons" when composing a message.

here's a selection....
