I think she meant that she wasn't the only one getting something substantial from the show: for her playing Angela was a catharsis (as Merriam-Webster puts it: "purification or purgation of the emotions (as pity and fear) primarily through art") and for the viewers the show was, well, a chance to see very real-like teenagers on TV and to identify with them -- to see that they're not alone with their thoughts and feelings.

Yeah thats exactly what i took it to mean too. I just wish Claire would say 'masturbatory' (or any variations of) more often

Claire always seems to come across in interviews as more sensible than the average Hollywood goober.
