OK ---- How about your favorite scene?

This is even tougher than choosing a favorite episode, but I'll give it a shot.
MSCL did a lot of things well, but perhaps the finest moments came at the
endings of shows. So I'm not surprised that my list here is all endings:

1) The ending of "Betrayal" with Rayanne and Angela reading the lines from
"Our Town" ---- That scene just blows me away.

2) "Self Esteem" ending where Jordan and Angela hold hands.

3) Brian & Angela talking at the end of "In Dreams..." (although this one
always gives me a pain in the gut because it reminds me of the show's
cancellation).

4) Angela's monologue over the scene of her riding Brian's bike down
the hill (at the end of "Pressure").

5) The ending of the episode where Rayanne ODs (forgot name).
This is kind of a montage in slow-motion where Angela is comparing
her family members to the Tarot cards ---- Very cool...

Wow. This is definitely going to be a difficult one to do. Although, actually, in certain ways it's a little easier to do than episodes. I mean, I can tell you which scenes I like (though narrowing them down will be a problem!), but trying to tell you which episode as a whole I like best is difficult.

1) The scene in In Dreams... when Brian is reading the letter in a voice over while he's giving it to Jordan...AHHHHH! For a die-hard Brian fan like myself, that scene is as heart-wrenching and and beautiful as it is frustrating.

2) The scene from Pressure that I was describing before...let's just say start with her talk with Brian (with Graham listening in =) ) and go all the way through when she and Jordan say goodbye.

3) Brian and Angela talking at the end of In Dreams...

4) The scene when Sharon and Angela finally talk again...in the episode where Sharon's dad has a heart attack.

5) All of the scenes where Angela and Rickie show how well they understand each other and care for each other...for instance...the scene in the car in Guns and Gossip when Rickie tells Angela about the gun...and the scene in Life of Brian during the dance (I think I'm placing this scene in the right place) when Rickie says he doesn't belong anywhere...

6) The part of the scene in On the Wagon when Jordan finally steps up and starts singing- AHHH! I love his voice!!

7) The hand holding scene at the end of Self-Esteem

I told you I'd have trouble narrowing them down!

8) the scene from Pressure in Jordan's garage

9) The whole scene in So-Called Angels with the choir etc

10) The scene from So-Called Angels where Brian and Angela talk and then get frustrated with each other...but I love listening to her talk about all the homeless children and how they're just like everyone else.

11) The scene (also from So-Called Angels) where Brian is really sad and lonely and calls the little teen help line- up until the part where Rayanne answers because, as funny as it is, it makes me feel really bad for Brian. Then pair that with the scene at the very end when Brian goes with the to the church where Angela is and they are all smiling at each other and seem to be really content.

12) OK, last one, I promise. =) The scene (I forget which episode) where Jordan offers to teach Brian how to get a girl's phone number.....I think it's kind of a cool pairing. I mean, Jordan knows all about girls (well, from a certain perspective...he's experienced but still doesn't know a thing about a girl like Angela) but doesn't have the school smarts, and Brian has the top grades and intelligence yet doesn't know the first thing about how to handle girls (I mean, just look at what happened with Delia). But then the two elements, rather than be joined, are basically at odds with each other when Brian writes the letter for Jordan, even though he's really writing it for himself.

OK, the ones toward the end aren't really in any particular order, just the order I thought of them in. the first few are actually my favorites though. I'd say 1-3 are my faves and the rest are not in order.

Dad gum it, I thought of another scene as soon as I submitted my last entry...this one would go pretty high on my list...the scene from So-Called Angels at the end when Jordan is lighting the candles...I love that scene, how he's talking to Rickie and doesn't really believe in that sort of stuff (when Rickie says he'll light a candle for him) and then he seems to have actually thought about it. =) Wonderful scene- wonderful episode...I think about a third of my favorites are from that episode.

Favorite scene this will be hard to narrow down. Once again I can't put them in any kind of order.
1. I know everyone has already said this one but Angela and Jordan's brake up scene.
2. Everyone has said this one already too but the ending of Betrayal when Angela and Rayanne are reading from Our Town.
3. In Pressure when Jordan comes over to Angela's house at night and they are in the kitchen and Patty calls Angela over and says about how she knows she likes Jordan but they have to meet him etc. And then Jordan says so you like me? Your mother says you like me. I just love that scene.
There are so many more but those are just the ones that stand out to me right now.

I've only seen the first 5 episodes so my favourite scenes are kind of limited. Seems like no one really picked scenes from the beginning. Is it because the series gets that much better(hard to believe since I'm already pretty blown away), or is it just easier to remember scenes closer to the end? Anyway, some of my fav are:

the whole sequence leading up to "we had a time"

the find scene of the zit where Angela said,
"sometimes it seems like we're all living in, like, some kind of prison. And the crime is how much we hate ourselves. ... when you really look closely, people are so strange and complicated that they're actually ... beautiful. Possibly even me."
The thing about the prison, how we hate ourselves is just so true! I'm still blown away everytime I see that scene.

Also the scene where Rayanne smiled and said it hurts to look at you in the pilot was very warm as well

and the girlscout cookie passage b/w Sharon and Angela in the Zit.

wow!! people are really coming up with some great scenes. well, I'm not going to try and order mine. most of my favs have already been mentioned anyway. here are some that I can think of right now that haven't been mentioned:

-basically any confrontation scene between Angela and someone (Sharon, Rayanne, Jordan, etc...) I just hate to see her cry. everytime I see her cry, I get all teary myself.

-I have to re-mention the kitchen scene between Jordan and Angela, that scene just cracks me up. it reminds me of the thousands of times my mom has embarrassed me in front of a guy I liked.

-I wrote about this one on the mailing list the other day, but it needs mentioning again. the scene in Life of Brian where Ricki and Brian are talking on the school steps. it's a greatly funny scene because they keep whining about their lives and then Ricki asks Brian if he's going to help Angela. Brian says "I might stop by..." it's great, I laugh every time!!

-the scene when Jordan finally realizes his feelings for Angela through the shakespeare sonnet. it's great how the camera shows both him and Brian and we know they are talking about her.

-I absolutely love the scene when Angela wakes up and realizes that she is finally "over Jordan." like that is possible. :) her energy is great. who hasn't felt like that at some point? that also reminds me of the scene when she is dancing to her door after kissing Jordan.

okay, I can't think of any right now. but I love all the scenes that everyone else has mentioned. great topic!! :)

I won't reiterate the ones already mentioned, but I'll add two of my favorites:

In "Why Jordan..." I love the fight between Angela and Brian; in front of the fireplace, talking about the Bicycle Thief. It was only after a couple of viewings that I realized how crucial this scene is to their relationship. They may sometimes seem distant and seem like they couldn't possibly understand each other. But that scene is remarkably intimate.

The scenes beginning when Rickie leaves the runaway shelter up to his shaking hands when he meets Mr. Katimski's partner. The first time I saw that episode, when he make the phone call to thier house, I had tears running down my face.

Just my two cents,

Veronica

I love the scene in The Life of Brian where Brian squashes Delia like the chubby little bug she is and tells her he'd rather go to the dance with someone else. I cannot bear the thought of Brian settling for someone other than Angela, no matter how unrealistic it might seem. She is his Beatrice, and he her Dante, she just hasn't realized it yet.

Here's another one that I thought would be fun to bring around for discussion again, so I hope you don't mind.

I listed on the Fun Poll that my favorite moment was when Jordan takes Angela's hand and they walk down the hallway while we here Buffalo Tom's great song.

Many of my other favorite scenes have already been mentioned, but one I was surprised that no one brought up was Jordan and Angela in the boiler room when her voiceover is talking about the deep conversations that she and Jordan have. <img src="/forum/images/wink.gif"> That reminds me so much of how any guy I was crushing on in high school seemed so interesting even if he was doing nothing at all.

My list of favourite scenes, as always, is endless (and not in any particular order)! Let's see there's....

-The hand-holding-walk-down-the-corridor scene in Self-Esteem (of course!)
-Angela telling Jordan in the boiler room (after he ignores her at Buffalo Tom) "by the way, I spell my name with one L"...you go girl!
-Angela comparing her family to tarrot cards (and out of darkness....)
-The fashion show at the end of 'The Zit'...I always cry at that one because I relate to it so much!
-Brian telling the headmaster (in guns and gossip) that he will sue him for harrasment! GO BRAIN!
-Delia and Rickie dancing at the World Happiness dance - great fun!
-The end of so-called Angels where we glimpse the angels wings! (It's a Wonderful Life eat your heart out!)

Joanna,
Per your thoughts on the "Favorite Episode" post, I was going to create a new post asking for favorite scenes (actually I had been thinking about such a post for a while ); but alas...Oldguy has beaten me to it. I list my favorites ( in no particular order ) below.

Ending of Self Esteem ( Okay, if I were putting them in order this would be #1 also. )

Final scene in Pilot. Starting with Angela talking to Jordan.

Dancing in the Dark when Angela approaches Jordan's car with the dance instructor's voiceover.

When Brian finds Angela's I.D. in Dancing in the dark.

The Zit when Angela tells Patty," I'm ugly okay?....Just face it ...I have".

Fashion show at the end of the Zit with "Return to Innocence" playing and Angela doing a v/o.

Why Jordan Can't Read when Angela and Jordan argue over him reading the letter. ( maybe my favorite of all )

Why Jordan Can't Read , the scene that starts with Angela asking," I can go out on dates, right?".

Why Jordan Can't Read when Angela argues with Krakow about Jordan and the "The Bicycle Thief".

The end of Why Jordan Can't Read when Angela is eating Cookie-Dough ice cream.

Self Esteem when Rayanne lays into Jordan after he has just blown off Angela at the pool table.

Pressure, when Jordan meets Graham and then Graham, Hallie, and Brad grill Jordan.

When Brian tutors Jordan in Resolutions.

Final scene in "In Dreams".

One favorite scene I don't think anyone has mentioned: Where Graham is laying on the couch (and accidentally over-hears Angela and Jordan do their break-up scene (In "Pressure"). That was such clever writing! It made it so much more than if it was just the two alone.

Yeah, I also like that part of the episode beforehand much for the same reason - the way Graham stifles a laugh when Brian says loudly, in his suprise that "you think about sex all the time??" and Angela relies "yes, boys don't have the monopoly on thinking about it!".....very funny - I also like the scene at the dinner table where Danielle mentions foreplay and Graham nearly chokes on his food - the timing of acting in that scene is fantastic!
