Sports Night: Reel Live vs. Real Life

MSCL may be gone from the tv screen, but there are lots of good (and bad) new productions airing each week. Talk with other MSCL fans about your favorite shows or the shows you hate. Of course you can also discuss TV show DVD releases here.

Sports Night: Reel Live vs. Real Life

Post by MadMichael » Nov 15th 2002, 9:01 am

I've finished watching my 'Sports Night' DVD set, what a treat.

In addition to seeing Janel Moloney (now 'Donna Moss' on 'The West Wing') as a wardrobe assistant, I noticed Tom Cavanagh (now 'Ed Stevens' on 'Ed') in a bit part...

Here's an interesting article from ESPN:

Thanks for the link. Interesting read.

I'm just hitting the 3rd of 6 discs of the Sports Night set. One of my all-time faves. God, what a genius show.

Took me a few years to finally buy a copy of this set, but I just finished watching the last disc and it's really a great show -- or better it was a great show.

I love Aaron Sorkin's writing style - too bad he isn't working on new tv projects since he had to leave "West Wing" (which went badly downhill since he left) - although there are rumors about a tv project for 05/06. What amazes me is the fact that he wrote *every single* episode of the first season and a huge part of the second season (when he was already working on West Wing).

Anyway, if you haven't seen the show, go and buy the box set from Buena Vista. There are no special features on it, but it contains all 45 episodes in one set.

Check out the cut scenes from the series finale at http://sportsnight.tktv.net/Episodes2/22.html

Sports Night was listed with MSCL as "the must-have cult classics on DVD" in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (I think). You may've also got it if you bought a Seinfeld DVD at Best Buy.

I'm a infrequent poster on a Sports Night forum, and I can remember back when the plans for MSCL on DVD were in the works -- you know, back when TV shows on DVD were not done -- and we were all petitioning for Sports Night on DVD. Well, it never looked good so no one got their hopes up, but when MSCL was officially announced, I can remember the entire community feeling like that was going to be the springboard to getting Sports Night on DVD. And wouldn't you know it? Maybe 2 weeks later, Disney announced the SN set.

Nice to see almost that entire cast has gone on to some great commercial successes.
