I'm a big fan of covers Guns N Roses have done, so...

The Spaghetti Incident ( a whole album of great covers)
Sympathy for the Devil
Knockin on Heaven's Door
Live & Let Die

But it's strange someone can't repay the favour, as Sheryl Crow has shown with her recent cover of Paradise City.

and, somewhat strangely;

Bye Bye Love, covered by Simon & Garfunkel.

Tom Waits' "Time" as covered by Tori Amos

The Beatles' "Across the Universe" as covered by Fiona Apple (and one of the very few good Beatles covers)

Slowdive's "When the Sun Hits" as covered by The Gathering

Simon and Garfunkel's "Hazy Shade of Winter" as covered by The Bangles

XTC's "Dear God" as covered by Sarah McLachlan

And speaking of Sheryl Crow, almost her entire first album are good covers since they're all songs written by another band.

Great Charles Manson cover on there... I highly recommend Charlies album. Surprisingly very good. His other one Live at San Quentin is just not nearly as good.

Dtheater...

Slowdive, whoa, I thought I was the only person on the planet who owned an album by that band! 8)

And I agree with your comments on Sarah McLachlan's "Solace" album. I especially love her cover of Donovan's Wear Your Love Like Heaven.

Always liked the Indigo Girls cover of Bob Dillans Romeo and Juliet...

I am a sucker for a good cover song... and here are a few of my favorites.

The Vandals f/ Katalina "My Heart Will Go On"... yes THAT one...
The Cardigans "The Boys are Back in Town"
Ben Harper "Strawberry Fields Forever" as well as
Rufus Wainright "Across the Universe"... Both from the "I am Sam" soundtrack.
And one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!!

The Derailers do a cover of Prince's "Raspberry Beret"... as a honky-tonkin country number.

My favorite cover album of all time... "If I Were a Carpenter" featuring 1992-ish era alt-rock bands covering the Carpenters... worth it for Shonen Knife's "Top of the World" alone.

I have countless others too...

First off:
Nena's 99 Red Balloons did not need a cover. It's a great song to run around the house and jump on the beds and scare the dog to.

Second of all:
dTheater what does your name mean?

Third of all:
I have accidentally found this reggae-ish cover of "Lean On Me". It's also kinda gospelly. I LURVE it.
Also, Willie Nelson's cover of Elvis' "You Were Always On My Mind" is pretty good (It's also my parents wedding song, SO...LoL)

Yeah, later...MUCH.

There's a band called Dream Theater. And that's that.

I picked it as my nick when I registered 3 years ago, and I'd love to change it, but it's probably far too late now.

LOL! :-) What a lousy god that would be ... :-)

But actually, it's pretty easy to change your username in the forum: Click on "Profile" and edit your current username. That's it. But there are a few pitfalls: You can't choose an username that already exists. You can also not go back to your old username once you've changed it. But please don't change it too often - it's very confusing for other forum users...

I totally agree. And the worst cover version is the one she did now herself for her 20th stage anniversary. "Nena feat. Nena" ... ugh! (Oh, the early 80's... those were the days... I knew almost all lyrics from all Nena songs back then. Well, I was just 6 or 7 years old :-) )

But my favorite cover version right now is Kelly Osbournes version of "Papa Don't Preach" (I know some of you might hate me for that :-) ). But it really rocks :-)
