Roger Rees (Vic Racine) ably portrayed revolutionary firebrand Thomas Paine in this PBS miniseries. IMDB has a good publicity pic of him in character here.
Also, it isn't exactly 'afterlife', but I noticed he was the "Sheriff of Rotingham" in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. As I recall, he ended up being ravaged by a witchy Tracey Ullman...
