I get so excited to see new people joining all the time!! (Although it does seem like there are a few of us that are on here much more often than others!!) But that's good!! Let's keep this board alive!!! EVERYONE--feel free to post on here regularly and share your comments with us! This board absolutely RULES, as do the members!! I was really amazed to find that people are still talking about MSCL 4 1/2 years
after its cancellation by ABC. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, with MTV
running the show, and then with some of the videos being released. I watched
most of the original airings, and I always thought it was a remarkably great show.
After re-watching several shows on video, I now think MSCL is hands-down the
best show I've ever seen. The amazing thing is, you don't even have to be a
teenager to like the show (I'm afraid to tell you how old I am!). I think anyone
who likes a very creative, intelligent, artful show will be floored by MSCL.

By the way, my favorite thing about the show is all of the literary allusions
that run through different episodes. Whether it's Angela's face fading into
Anne Frank's in the pilot, the references to "Metamorphosis" in the "zit"
episode, or Rayanne's powerful lines from "Our Town," MSCL frequently
mirrored the plot with that of some classic piece of literature --- That
was so cool!

I totally understand what you mean about the literary allusions in this show--that is one of my favorite things about it. When Rayanne is reading the lines from Our Town with Angela---Oh! I get chills just THINKING about it. It makes me cry everytime--can we not all relate to the way they are both feeling at this moment? It's so beautifully directed, acted, and scripted. That is definitely an AWESOME sceen. Also--don't forget about Sonnet 130, when Mr. Katimski is reading it and Jordan starts to realize why he likes Angela--this is probably the only time he's ever actually participated in class, and it's so neat to watch his face as he starts to realate Sonnet 130 to his feelings for Angela. Oh--BTW, oldguy--don't feel bad about your age--i think there are some other people here who aren't teenagers as well. Anyone is welcome! I can't understand why people of all ages WOULDN'T like this amazing show.

Yes, the "Betrayal" episode, featuring the play "Our Town" is actually my favorite episode.
It's kind of a dark episode, but I guess I like that sort of thing --- very powerful. Speaking
of the literary content of the show, I also think it's funny how the first several episodes all
feature different substitute English teachers --- until Mr. Katimsky finally arrives. I also
remember the first time I watched the shows, where I kept wondering --- who's this guy
Tino? Of course, Tino is never shown... kind of an inside joke for the show, I guess.
There are so many subtle, really cool little things like this, though. It's fun to see
that others have noticed these things too. That's why I've enjoyed visiting the Board.

I was watching my MSCL tapes with some friends who are new to the show and then we came to The Zit (I think that's what one it was anyway that's one of my favorites). The thing I noticed that I never had before was Grahm and Patty's bed. It was a different bed than the one in Rayanne gets cuffed to. THis one had no place where the cuffs could go so I guess they had to change it. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed that or anything like that. I just thought it was sort of funny because tv shows do stuff like that all the time.

Well i haven't really noticed them by myself but here at this site there is a page (or whatever) called the chase's house's floorplan or something like that and there are quite a few of those mistakes listed there so ... anyway

Yes, you're right, I noticed that too! Another place that things look different is the kitchen. Take a good look at the kitchen in the "Pilot" episode, and then look at well, just about any other episode and you'll see that from #1 to any of the others, the kitchen looks different. It's like they were in the middle of a renovation when the Pilot was shot. Then later, we see it all done - completed or something.

There's another one I remember only slightly. I think it's in the "Self Esteem" episode; Angela is in the basement make-out place. We see her there, in the basement, but when she comes through the door into the hallway, she's wearing a sweater that she wasn't wearing as she walked up the steps!

There are lots of such "renovations" during the 19 episodes of My So-Called Life. The first episode was shot in a real house in 1993, the second episode almost a year later on a soundstage, which explains the huge differences between the floorplans of both episodes. After episode 9, they changed the soundstage again, almost the complete interior decoration was exchanged and Graham's and Patty's bedroom even got two new windows. *grin*

It's even a little bit more complicated, because episode 10 was shot before episode 9, so episode # 9 features the new decoration, but it seems to change back again in #10 ...

Not to mention the "we don't have a basement" - mistake <img src="/internal/wwwthreads/images/wink.gif">

Good question. Someone should ask Cate Bangs that question, she was the set designer and created the soundstage version of the Chase' House <img src="/internal/wwwthreads/images/smile.gif">. But could Brian really look into Angela's bedroom ? Didn't he just see through the kitchen window ?
Anyway, Angela's room is on the same side as Graham's and Patty's bedroom in the first episode. But they switched it in episode 2 to the other side of the house.

Not about that mysterious house, but one thing I noticed that was really jarring was in the episode with the World Happiness Dance, when Angela is standing outside the school on the steps with Rickie talking about whether or not they will be going (I think that's where it is), she appears to be wearing nylon stockings, but in the next couple of cuts in the scene, she is wearing her usual black tights. Did anyone else see this or was it a hallucination?

Your right. The age range of the fans span decades. I've never been so touched by a television
show as MSCL has touched me and I was a teenager in the seventies. That's right, the seventies!
I'm assuming most on the discussion board weren't even born or were very, very young.
