Welcome to the new MSCL.com!

Post by Sascha » Sep 2nd 2007, 3:06 pm

It's finally done. The new MSCL.com is online.

This is the biggest change on our site since 1999. Everything is new, beginning with the fresh layout, a new forum software, a new gallery software, a completely rewritten fanfiction section, and our own content management software.

But this is, like, only the beginning. We just moved the content from the old site to this new system. Now, we can now more easily update MSCL.com content. Some of the main targets for improvements are the episode guide and the cast & crew sections, which are still somewhat sparse. But we finally made the first step and retired the old site, which was quite a mess after years of countless modifications, and add ons.

We don't expect that everything will work flawlessly. Consider this a working "beta" version. If something doesn't work, if you're getting error messages, or things look weird in your browser, just let us know: Either post in this topic or send us an email using our contact form. We will do lots of fine-tuning over the coming weeks and months.
And now...

Go, now, go explore the new site!

Yay, the new site looks awesome!

I haven't poked around everywhere yet, but when I clicked on the link on the bottom left ("Welcome to the new MSCL.com"), I got a pop up window asking for admin authentication for msclcomdev.sab.net (I wasn't logged into the site yet). I closed the window and it popped up again, but after the second time it went away.

This might be an old lady complaint, but I noticed as I was typing this that the font is tiny! Is there a way for me to adjust how the font is displayed once I log in so I don't have to squint?

ETA: The font is fine once I submit my post, but it's really small when I'm typing it in the little box. I guess I can live with that

One more thing: the forum index shows that the most recent post in the Announcements section is August 6th.

Shiny!

One small thing: I read the "Deutsche WiL-DVD erscheint am 13. September (Update)" news and there is this really weird ad for an online casino embedded in the text saying "Alle diese Sieler haben kasino ein des fuhrenden online kasino gemacht." It includes a link. Oddly enough, when I copy the news text, this sentence is missing. Is this ad supposed to be there?

Should be gone now. You probably got the login box when I switched from the development server to the live one.

Yeah, it was indeed a bit too small. Should be better now too.

This is because this topic is a "global" announcement (a new feature in this software version), meaning it appears on all forums, but doesn't "belong" to one specific forum.

There's a lot of new features on this new forum version (attachments!), but even I haven't figured them all out yet.

Also, there are some problems with older Internet Explorers (6+5) -- I'm working on it.

No it's not. Thanks for mentioning it. Looks like somebody messed with our news.mscl.com blog.

Everything looks great so far. I haven't poked around alot also but so far so good.
One complaint is how the size of the text or screen is viewed. I normally have my text set at small and in this case the right side of the forum is cut off. The first pic is from when my text is set at small and the second pic is when it is set at large.
At all times the screen should look like the large text pic but when you set your text size the screen shrinks and not the text?
Hope that makes sense.....

Thanks for the screenshots, they were very helpful. I think I have fixed this font size issue now, although some parts of the forum now show a slight rendering error in Firefox. But I have already an idea how to fix it.

this is awesome new website! Hopefully we'll get more visitors when more people discover the show from the dvds.

Wow, the new site looks fantastic! Thanks for letting us know that there's still a few bugs to work out; I was starting to get angry at my Internet connection for loading the site a little slow, hehe.

Great job, everyone! Definitely an improvement so far!

This will take some getting used to. I can't say I like it now, but I appreciated all the hard work you guys do here. I haven't been here in like soooo long I guess the new scenery just rattled me a bit. How is everyone? Candygirl - good to see you're still here. Anybody else I know still posting?
