search feature?

Post by emmie » Jul 31st 2005, 2:03 pm

am I using the search feature wrong? because every time I try to search for a topic, I get threads totally unrelated to my search. perhaps it's just easier to manually go through the threads to find a topic?

Yeah, the search function ist not very reliable if you search for more that one word. In these cases always use "Search for all terms" to get less results. Also very useful is "Display results as posts" to get an excerpt of every found post.

Searchin for only one word at a time on the other hand seems to work fine.

If you use generic/common words (like Angela or yesterday), you will get a ton of threads. What is most helpful is using multiple words in the search field. You must make sure you either use "search for all terms" (as Sascha mentioned) or use the available commands (AND, OR, NOT, *).

For example, if you're looking for the Sex and the City thread, if you type the keywords sex city in the keyword field, you get 452 threads. If you type sex AND city, you get 47 threads.

Look, if this is weird for you, being tutored? I don't mind helping you a little longer.
You could have sex with me if you really want to help...I guess that's a "no"?
