Forum Posting Tips

Ok, you'd think after posting over 400 times, I'd know this stuff. But embarassingly enough, I don't.

Two things:

1) When quoting someone, is there an easier way to insert their name, rather than typing ="username" into the quote brackets? Some way you can select the quote and paste it in your post and it remembers where you copied it from?

2)How do I link a URL address to the blue text, rather than just pasting the whole thing? For example instead of it saying http://www.mscl.com, it just says you can find it "here" and you click on "here" and off you go.

Please excuse my ignorance.

1) When you hit the "Quote" button on a post it will automatically populate their username. If you are doing it manually...you have to type it in.

2) You need to type {url=http://www.theaddressyouwantittogoto} TEXT {/url}

Replace the {'s with ['s

It took me awhile to figure this out too. When I'm not sure how to use one of the codes I find a post in which it was used and quote it, then the format is displayed in my text box. Asking was probably a lot easier. for the first month or so that I was using the url tags in that way I kept forgetting what to do and would search through the Buffy thread for one of CG's posts to quote to get the format straightenend out.

Good to know the Buffy thread is so useful!

You can also wave your mouse pointer over the special effect buttons in the posting window; a brief explanation of the button's function and its equivalent code will appear just above the message body box, below the font colour and font size options.

And in case you haven't found it (the link is a bit hidden in the message composing window under "Options - BBCode") - here is a help page for the BBCode of this forum: http://www.mscl.com/forum/faq.php?mode=bbcode.

After reading CG's advice to another poster to read the Forum Rules, I clicked on it, just to reread them, and guess what I discovered for the first time???!!! the Internet Acronyms Dictionary!!! Now I don't have to feel confused, and then post that I'm confused, and then be confused as to why I didn't get whatever it is in the first place :roll: Well, I didn't read the whole list, but I'm guessing stuff like ( o Y o) and <3 aren't on it, so maybe I will still be confused sometimes, but then again, ... damn, what was I saying? :roll: :wink:
